And now for something completely different <_< not.
Put on a new left rear bearing a few months back during the whole plastic bushing replace. Did it with the 'tool', on the bench, nice and easy. Checked that the castle nut is really torqued, I have a big air impact which is the bees knees for that stuff. But, it has play (small amount) when I grab the sides of the wheel, but not when I grab the top and bottom of the wheel. I know what you're thinking, loose arm mount or didn't shave the bushings; but I did shave them and when I look at the arm during shaking I can't see anything. Can a bearing have play this way, or is something in the system out-of-round. I have checked this and found the same thing on different days after having driven the car between, and also the right side which was replaced a few years back doesn't do this. I need to know! Replace the bearing.
Several shop owners I know.. have ran across bad bearings straight out of the box. B |

How much play is there?
Is there some accepted standard on how to check that, and what the amount should be? I need to keep a close eye on my own bearings...so far so good though. |

A lot of them just have that much play as new. They're probably fine. The ones in my race car have been like that for a few years and haven't gotten any worse. I'll bet you can't feel the play in one direction because of the weight on the car. We discussed this issue before and the concensus was that the FAG's are tighter, I think.

Thanks all, I definitely will be checking it regularly as I have
to change tires 20 more times this AX season. I'll buy another new one for the near future. BTW, I had the wheel in the air for checking for movement. If I could move the tire sideways with the weight on it, I would either be in the strongman competition or the arm would be toast! |

I hadn't been keeping track of the FAG or SKF or the number. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
