Hi all,
I know you're all probably thinking cages and 5-point cam-locks, etc. But I've got an early car without retractable belts and for a number of good reasons it's going to stay that way for a while. However, I don't particularly like the stock belts which were not ideal new, and are now 33 years old. I just want a new belt that will bolt in like stock, I can feel safe on the road, and crank in good when I go AX-ing. And not break the bank, currently unemployed. :gilloutine: Thanks, Mark S. I replaced the belts in my car right after I bought it. I found that PEP did a good job of matching me up with a set of belts. They are not exactly OE style, but that doesn't matter to me (when they sell my car at my estate sale in 40 years no one will know the difference (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) ). I think they'll work with you to find OE style if that's important. Unfortunately, not cheap...but see what they've got to offer.
Good luck, Kevin Here's the contact info: PEP - Professionally Engineered Products Tech Support - Applications _____________________________________________ Work: 805.528.7888 Fax: 805.528.7887 Address: 1119-A Los Olivos Avenue Los Osos, CA 93402-3232 Note: porsche seatbelts 914 contact Chris X103 website = www.peproducts.com |

I think the address is www.peparts.com: PEParts.
The part number for early 914s is KT106 (KT100 for 74- ). $150 a copy. Apparently AA had a box of NOS belts - I got a pair for $168 a few weeks back on eBay. Don't see any right now though. I don't know of other sources. Gary |

QUOTE(Jaiderenegadesimpson V8 914 @ May 12 2003, 04:36 PM) Can the later retractable seat belts install in the early car? nope, not without major modifications. the retracting part is bolted up on the firewall and early cars don't have the proper sheet-metal shape to bolt them on. i suppose you could drill holes and bolt the retracting part on there anyways, but i doubt it will be as strong as the later style (re-enforced) sheet metal ... Hey as long as this thread got bumped I'll say what I
did recently. I found a place that sells the bug non- retractables that look period, but are of course new and safer, plus they can be adjusted so the buckle is on the side rather than in the middle of your stomach. Picked up 1 to start with from bugcity. $32. Annoying part is there's a lot extra coming down from the pillar that I'll have to stick somewhere. Mark S. '70 914-6 |

I installed the PEParts retractable belts in my 1970 six. Very straight forward bolt in. They were much better than the stock non retractable belts. I would do it again for the $300 spent.
