i think i will stop pushing my luck and fill when i am at 1/4 tank +- thanks guys Jim, it doesn't cost one Nickel more to keep a tank full than it does to keep one empty. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif) A full tank attracts less moisture. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif) |

When my low gas light goes on, I allways fill her up, and there's about 3 gals. Left in the tank. My 1.7 garbosch, I mean bosch FI is getting about 31 miles per gallon going on trips to Buena Park, Ca. To c Mom and Dad. My speeds range from 75 to 85 mph. That's pretty good for a old FI. Jim,
I don't know about two gallons but you could plumb (I've thought of doing this myself!) a pressure pot into the fuel system. You'd have valves on both sides... Tony |

My dad always told us NEVER to let it go below a 1/4 of a tank; heck in the winter I like keeping it at a half or better.
so far as lending a car out and getting it back low on fuel, My question always is how much is a rental car compared to a tank of gas? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) They usually get the point. |

You could coil 503 feet of 5/16" fuel line under the gas tank, should get you 2 gallons. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/santa_smiley.gif)

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/santa_smiley.gif) Nerd I learned my lesson years ago when I owned a cj5 jeep with a single fuel tank. I thought I filled my spare and proceeded to drive at least 50 miles on fire trails near where I lived. Well, needless to say I had to hike 15 miles back to get fuel......lesson learned! |

Well, my .02, is if you can't take the time to get gas before running out, you likely wont refill the gas can once you used it.......... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving-girl.gif) But they do make fuel safety cells for motorcycles. I've done a lot of long distance/off road motorcycle rides where gas may not be an option, and comes in handy. I havent used mine in 5+ years, cant remember the brand, but it was about a gallon. These cells/cans seal well and wont leak. Check out the adventure touring motorcycle forums.
Then again, just get gas when at 1/4 tank, its a better way to go overall. ;-) |

I carry this in my 67 bus, they were available in some MB and BMW cars, if you watch evilbay they come up for sale for $60-80.
They are 6L so 1-1/2 US gallon. It fits inside 15" and bigger spare tire rims. I have the red one, but I've seen them in a grey/black colour which I believe came in the BMW. I use non-ethanol gas and toss in a cap full of gas stabill. I refill it every 4-6 weeks when using it.
