Hey all, so I was enjoying the porsche during the Week-end (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/driving.gif) and got pulled over by popo...
Guy tells me tailights arnt working, I tell him, sorry offcer but its an old car ya know, let me go home fix it see what I can do... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/pissoff.gif) He's like well, NO take it to CHP and here's your ticket.... Anyways, (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/headbang.gif) How do I fix this? It looks like previous owner tried to fix it also beacause theres new wiring going to those lights.... I need help in troubleshooting this....Anyone? Is there club meeting for this forum? Anyone in he east bay? Sfrancisco? Thanks all. R. |

I had taillight, blinker, brake light issues when I got my car. Cleaned up all the contacts real good and replaced all the bulbs. They all work now.
If that doesn't do it, it's time to get out you elec tester/meter and start checking wires. |

Ohhh shit!
Sounds like something i am not qualified to do....and i have no tester either.... how much do you guys think a garage would charge to do this? Thanks. |

Garages charge by the hour ($80 - $125). So either have a fat wallet or spend $6.99 and getThis and learn to use it.
Buy some new bulbs and fuses. Clean the contacts. That should solve some of your problems. |

Cleaning the contacts and replacing the bulbs is easy.
If that doesn't work look at all the fuses and relays (one of them may have blown) and if that doesn't work just get a wiring diagram. Don't bring it to a shop. Depending on the year of your car, Pelican Parts has some good wiring diagrams for a few years. A circuit tester is really cheap, like sub $10 (go to radio shack, they should have some). You don't even really need a voltmeter. Then just go through each wire on the diagram. Its really easy and just takes some time. This diagram is for a 71 but, it is likely the same as a 72 and might eliminate several problems with your tail lights. Reconnect all of the wires as shown in this diagram. If you still have problems, make a detailed list of the symptoms and we can all then come up with posible fixes. (The terminal numbers are stamped next to the pins on the tail light enclosures. You can't see them without pulling the enclosures out but, you don't need to do that. There is a row of 3 pins and a row of 4 pins parallel to that on each tail light. You can figure out which color wire goes where by the relationship of that color to the row of 3 or 4 pins in the diagram.) Good luck at it, 94teener Attached image(s)

I just replaced all of my bulbs for the turnsignals....front and rear and replaced the blinker relay with the correct unit....all of the lights work perfect now, it could be something as simple as that.....it's not hard to replace the bulbs at all......
