Paragon has these for $150 for the front two calipers. Are these worth the price?
Iknow Dave Darling likes Porterfield pads, but what else is gooed for a stock 4 banger for AX use? My stock pads seem fine for now, but I think they wear fast |

I've been told by some Porsche track guys the best pads
to use are the carbon kevlar . At least with the pagid ceramic paragon prod. will give you a free can of ATE brake fluid. |

I would be a little leery about using track pads for AX. They will never get up to the right temperature to give you the kind of bite you will need.
For $150 you could buy six sets of the regular street Pagid pads. |

I'm not an autocrosser, but I think Paul is probably right. I would imagine an aggressive street pad would probably work better than something for a big track car.

Pagid Orange are a good AX and DE pad.....WARNING, they toss a LOT of dust.....be prepared to wipe down your rims every time you take out the car.....
They also do not last as long as a street pad.....but they stop like a MOFO.... |

Chris, the reason people change to a track type pad is because they have a problem overheating the stock pads and boil brake fluid. The track pads can help as they operate at a higher temperature while braking with more power. ATE blue helps with boiling brake fluid.
There is no way you can get track pads hot enough on the street for them to work the way they are designed for higher temps on the track. For ax you want either a stock pad or one step up from stock, not a high performance track pad. |

He also nailed this: LOL "ATE blue helps with boiling brake fluid" I like Motul. I have zero experience with the Pagid. I'm a Porterfield user (sounds like drugs) Brake pads that tear up rotors.. I like. B |

Porterfield makes an "aggressive street pad" called the R4S. It's a high temp pad that doesn't (supposedly, I've never tried it) make the dust and noise that track pads can, and works more consistently at low temps.
I put Pagid Blacks on the front of my car recently, and so far I love 'em. They are "rotor killers" but I would gladly trade a few rotors for optimum stopping power & consistency. (Not stopping can get REALLY expensive (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) ). Fortunately rotors are still pretty cheap for our cars. I didn't autox for very long before giving up on it and switching to track events, but I never drove any autox courses where there was truly "heavy" braking at all. In fact usually the engine and brakes would be pretty darn cold, since the car sat parked most of the day (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) |

Brad, I thought Blue was the right choice for Chris with a stock car and running ax. At 10 bucks a liter the price is right. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)
I've had problems with boiling fluid and went to Castrol SRF this year with very little to no problems. The bad news is it's 70 bucks a liter. On my track car I've run Porterfields, Performance Friction, and am now running Hawk Blues. I like these the best considering stopping power and modulation. I running huge JFZ's, clone of old Wilwood, uses NASCAR style pad, pads are 5/8 in thick plus the backing plate. I've got dual m/c and it's been a chore getting the bias right. Brakes have ducted cooling to the rotor. Current setup is the best braking I've had. |

Have not run ax in 2-3 years. Got tired of arriving at 6am and leaving at 6pm. The ax'ers were busy people and wanted to arrive, drive, leave, after all "they" had families. Haven't looked back. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
