Found this while searching for 5 lug steel rims, I love the look of these.

It appears that they offered a 944 steel rim which looks like these.

Yes you can widen 944 steel space saver spares. In accumulating the wheels watch carefully as there are at least two types of center pieces, one with a raised hub area and one without.
Close option for the actual service of cutting out your centers and using a wider outer is Stockton Wheel on Fremont street in Stockton, CA.
Longer 66mm wheel studs with steel open lug nuts complete the deal.

They look like early 911 steel wheels to me?

But maybe they are something different.

I know they're heavy but I think the look is worth it! They'd look great with a flared 914...

If you're racing I can understand the weight issue but if you're out for a highway cruise like to an event it may not make a lot of difference. Well, I know it will make a difference so far as unsprung weight and all but if you're not competing just pay the extra in gas, etc. and look GOOD! Might even make the highway smoother riding due to the weight difference... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)

I had Fuchs, cookies and steelies on a 912 back to back to back and couldn't really notice a difference. I ended up with the steelies because they look awesome!!

They are so heavy, I also like the look but double the weight.

I have a few laying around. They seem to be quite popular with the R-Group 911 guys.

914-6 came with them as the standard wheel (with caps) and even chrome.

I think it is a great look for a stock 914/6. Probably because it is rarely seen.

I have a '71 4 lug steely which was originally the spare. It's available for $75 plus shipping. It is straight, no curb rash, but needs paint. The price includes the original tire. If you only want the rim, then add dismount fee which is probably the difference in weight and diameter for shipping. PM me if interested and I will dig it out and take front and back pics.

I used to run Goodyear Bluestreak race tires on stock 4bolt steel wheels and cracked them at the bolt holes. Not strong enough for that application. Pedrinis were much better. Five bolts are a different story and much, much stronger.

I'll keep my Mahles, but still the look is nice, and I have the original set, but not the original hub caps. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Some one decided they liked the Fuch look, and in the 70s some one produced a hub cap that looked like a Fuch (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

Are any of the hubcaps interchangeable for the 914/4, 914/6, 911 and 944 steel rims?

You can make them with the centers for spares. Randar Wheels in San Diego has made them before. They are heavy, but look cool.

Found these puppies today online...no price, which means I cannot afford them!

I'm guessing steel center riveted to an aluminum rim section, pretty slick. Did some more research on these, I guess the factory did this method way back in the day for the 904 race cars!

6, 7 and 8 inch wide.

Stoddard has 4 1/2", 5 1/2", and 6" reproduction steel wheels made with factory tooling.

I picked up a pair of 7" wheels (ebay) that were widened by using the Porsche center and welding it to a chevy 7" hoop.

Mike, I see the bumps that look like rivet heads, but I think they're spot welds.
