Update to my previous response on converting 38mm to 42mm pistons.
No, it cannot be done. I forgot about the dust boot. The bore would have to be increased by 4mm, and this would result in too thin of a ring between the groove for the dust boot and the piston bore. If the casting could be welded up, then remachined, perhaps there is a solution. |

Sorry for the delayed response, I was out of town for the weekend. (take the I-15 to the 60 to the 83 to the 71 to the 57 to the 210 to the 134 to the 101 to the 134 to the 210 to the I-15... god, I love LA)
Qarl... zinc. I plate them first and then hone the bores. Clearance isn't a huge issue, the sealing ring takes care of that. Jeroen... bead blasting isn't an issue either. We simply don't bead blast directly into the bore. A standard brake cylinder hone found at your FLAPS will clean up everything. All the pistons get buffed to a mirror finish on a wheel and then tapped off and the tops get bead blasted to bare metal. Those get repainted with grey heat paint. |
