Well, the former rust spots and now holes have made the metal paper thin and useless.
At this early stage of FeO,the effort won't be too great, relatively speaking.
Access, the engine is in the way of the repairs to be made, physically extremely difficult to make otherwise.
So, the engine and trans axle must be lowered,a one hour affair.
(I see now on your other repair thd you've done that).
The front bottom area of your firewall must also be inspected for corrosion.(the pix look like you have a nice set of longs)
The purchase of a video borescope will allow you to inspect the interior of the chassis's tubular members.
The removal of debris, dust and rust powder will allow the treatment by neutralizer spray paint.
Clean,
and clean again,
cut,
match,
weld,
prep,
clean,
paint.
repeat.
Without the expertise of experience, all of this is a learning curve.
When you make a mistake, and things get ugly, start over.
First, try to patch repair a rusted scrap fender to an acceptable finish.
Then, use that experience to unhole your 914.

I think Resto primarily sells the just the major pieces (I have several of them). If you're looking to replace only the minimum amount of metal, fab it yourself or there's this: Maddog Hell Hole Repair Kit.

Problem is, there's likely to be more rot at this point inside the longs. Are the rockers off and have you looked at the points underneath? If you don't think you have major problems there then count yourself lucky and start planning how and where to cut just around that spot.

You may want to do some searching here on the site. There are lots of previous examples of people repairing this area and also doing major work on the longs, which requires other considerations (like bracing the frame). Here's one example focused on just the Hell Hole: Hell Hole Repair.

Thank you, I have a thread about the car as a barn find but started a new one about this question.
It does look good under the rocker pannels. I was looking to see if there is a pretty fabricated part that can get welded in or if it was patch work. I just want to try and restore it as accurately as possible.

That Mad Dog kit is, IIRC, the closest thing to a "pretty" fabricated part. But it's not hard to do something similar yourself. Whether it turns out pretty is going to be dependent on how well you weld, clean up your welds, and paint/finish it up. Good luck!
