I see some people cut a section out of the front wheel wells. Some put screen in place of it and some just leave it open. I've always wondered what this was for?

They're usually running a V8, or some other water-cooled engine, and mount the radiator in the front trunk......the fender holes are to let the hot air out.

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/agree.gif) you need air-flow if you run a radiator or big oil cooler. to get a flow, you need a exit for the air and that's what the fender well cutouts are for. there are other ways to exit the air, under the car through the front trunk floor or upwards through a cutout in the front hood are two other more popular methods ... A flute without holes is not a flute. A donut without a hole is a danish. A 914 with front mounted radiator or oil cooler without holes is...not cool!
