I had planned on using the AP carb rain hats, but they interfere with the deck lid springs. Wish I had known before purchasing them. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)

Where were we?

Okay, so back in 2018 the old gal was still on the road, but I wasn't getting any satisfaction from driving her. Each outing was a stark reminder of how tired and out of tune so many systems were.

One of the worst issues was consistent hot start issues. Every stop at a gas station was enough to cause anxiety. I'd already moved the fuel pump to underneath the fuel tank, but to no avail.

The steering was starting to suck. While I'd refreshed the rear suspension with stiffer springs and Koni Yellows, I had no idea what was lurking up front. I knew bushings were worn, and it felt like the struts were gone, but I'd never in all my years of 914 ownership actually torn in or rebuilt the front end.

Also, the Yoko S-Drives were shitty tires, too. 195/55/15s IIRC, and they had so much sidewall give, that a little back and forth on the steering wheel would cause the car to wallow back and forth like a boat. Boo.

There was no avoiding it. I needed to put Yellow back on jack stands.

I already had a few parts on the shelf. Maybe just enough to push me off the edge, like a set of 911 Turbo tie rods and some ball joints. I hastily started to order more bits. First, some delrin a-arm bushings, and then some elephant racing a-arm bushings, and then I ultimately settled on Rebel S Racing front a-arm bushings. I must really like spending money on a-arm bushings, but I'm getting ahead of myself.

The quick front end refresh ended up spanning from 2022 until nowish. Yesterday I lowered her back on her front paws after all these years. The registration sticker should be here in a few weeks.

I still have a long list of to-dos, and tuning/problem solving on the rear half of the car, plus a few final details up front to finalize, but there may be light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm going to do my best to slowly start back filling this project thread with what I did to get to this point, but we'll see how much time I can really devote to that until it's back on the road.
