This was a big milestone as it was the first time I was getting to put together all these new or refreshed parts - and I could do so while standing up! What a luxury.

I opted to use marking paint so I'd remember (years) later what I'd torqued. That proved to be quite helpful.

And that's where progress stopped once again. 2024 had me working on home projects.

Fast forward all the way to June of 2025. Really, it'd been about a year and half since I'd touched it. I needed to move it into the middle of the garage so I could no longer ignore it. Doing so also pushed my daily driver into the driveway, further motivating me to get some work done.

So I lowered the front end onto a furniture dolly and then shimmied everything over so I could access all sides.

Sad state:

Onto the dolly:

Now on four stands:

The bench was still clogged up with good parts getting dusty:

Disassembling MORE of the car at this point felt counter intuitive, but it had to be done. I stripped the rest of the soft lines, rear calipers and discs.

Rather annoyed the the firewall shift bushing had already cracked, so I ordered the CFR spherical bushing replacement.

Rounded off brake fittings, fault of my earlier self or a DPO, so I placed an order for a number of hard lines from PMB.

Started getting the rear calipers ready for installation, too.

There's a lot of "while I'm in there" going on with this project, though there are occasions when I opt to put things off that are easily accessible later on. As much as I enjoy making the car nice, it needs to get back on the road so I can remember why I'm doing all this to begin with.

Gotta leave something for my future self to do, right?

However, one of those "while I'm here" tasks was refurbishing the fresh air box by cleaning it up and resealing and replacing some hardware that was missing.

What a pain in the ass.

I spent some time cleaning the under carriage, and I'd say it's just about concourse ready, huh? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Anyway, I installed the 19MM ATE master cylinder only to find that the hardline that connects it to the tunnel fitting had thread that were mangled well beyond repair, so I placed another order through PMB.

While waiting for the new hardline, I installed the rear calipers and started to fit the top strut mounts.

I opted for the Porterfield R4-S pads again.

Unfortunately, the replacement line from PMB was about a 1/2" too short. There's probably about an 1/8" of give between the fitting on the firewall and the master cylinder. They were awesome and had a newer, longer one at my door within short order.

But then the project stalled again for quite a while.

So the car become a shelf again, but I did get a new peg board and found some relics with my tool collection.

I will say one thing I was really missing during this period was having a pal in the area that would be happy to come by and just hang and work on this stuff together. It took a mind shift for me to just enjoy being out in the garage solo, either bopping along to music or just my own thoughts. Now it's fine, but there was a transitional period there.

Growing up, it was my group of buds that spent time together working on our rides. Later on, I still had a small network of friends that preferred hanging in the garage over piling on the couch to watch a game. People move away, friend groups change, but the car's still out in the garage.

That's okay!

Same here, i miss being able to just hang out on a Saturday and do some wrenching with people around. It was awesome when McMark still had his shop in Napa. Miss those days.

Anyways, your car is looking great!

Jump ahead to Sept of this year and we're nearly caught up, though there's still a ton of progress to post.

The line that PMB sent did happen to fit this time around. Once installed, I realized there wasn't anything stopping me from throwing in the cross beam with steering rack.

While it would have been nice to have had someone help ease the steering shaft into the receiving end in the cab, I did manage to get it done by myself.

You may notice the fuel filter and pump are in the fuel tank bay, but I later moved those back the engine compartment. More on that in a future post.

Thanks Andy!

Mark leaving was a big loss and I recall you had been spending a fair amount of time over there.

You're always welcome to come up north and hang/wrench at my place if you're looking for something to do. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Rebel Racing's RSR bushing kit is so awesome. I got the spherical washer kit, too, which was helpful for my chassis. After a little shimming, I was able to get both sides moving without any binding. It's really satisfying when you get it dialed.

I did have to clearance some of the powder coating out the way to get the rear part of the kit to fit in the crossbar. The extra thickness of the powder coating was just enough to be an issue.

Great thoughts, been there, totally understand. HOWEVER, honesty compels me to admit that I now work much differently than I did back then. I suspect that some of the old buds would find me to be a PITA now - more methodical, less slam bang. Regardless, the shop is my happy place - just walking in the door puts a smile on my face.

Good comments on how the project expands also. I too am doing an air box refresh, but before it goes back in the wiper assembly is coming out to diagnose a slow-wipe problem. It does make the washer motor and intermittent wiper upgrades a bit easier, however.

Looks like you are doing a great job, thanks much for sharing, I really enjoy seeing your updates. Cheers!
