Hi, couldn't find the answer to this even with the PET (one
of those errors where no number next to a part). A couple serious 914-6 people near me have said that they though the foglights came stock on the -6. However, mine doesn't have them, and that only would have happened new, or with the first owner (unknown) before 1974. My car had horrible air horns plumbed in next to the real horns, and some different non-labeled switch where the fog switch would go. The hole looks like it's in exactly the right spot for foglight switch. Does anybody know a -6 that came without fogs or have some kind of option list? If they all came with fogs, my theory is that the original owner complained about the horn sound, and some astute dealer said they could put big-ass air horns in if they also removed fogs and changed grills. Thanks for listening to my insanity (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolling.gif) |

'The 914 & 914/6 Porsche. A restorer's guide to authenticity' by Dr. B. Johnson, has photos of /6's both with and without fog lights. All references I could find indicate that fog lights were an option for the sixes.

the donor car that was used to make my /6 did not have fogs. It didn't even have the wires in the harness. While I have fog in my bumper, they were from the /4 but are not wired due to the /6 harness used. I'll run a few new wires when I mount the Super Oscars.

Our six has no fogs - and as far as I can tell never had them (no wiring or brackets).

Also I found in the Patrick Paternie book a list that shows
standard and optional items on all the cars and it lists fog lights as standard on the -6 all years !?! I haven't looked at my harness, but I find it odd that they would have different harnesses rather than just a couple of extra dangling wires. Seems inefficient. I'll check mine if possible without removing bumper. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) |

I've seen several pics of /6s without fogs. Maybe they made them standard after some time past. My car has a factory harness and there are no extra wires up front.
BTW, removing the bumper is really easy... only 4 bolts. Someone who has a lift in their garage has it even easier. |

My 6 has the wiring for the fogs. No fogs installed nor a hole in the vinal on the dash to indicate that a switch had ever been installed.

My /6 is fogless also. And from all appearances it never had them.

My 914/6 came from the previous owner with no fog lights. He had aquired a set, that he threw in with the deal when I picked the car up.

QUOTE(tod914 @ Jun 18 2003, 12:56 AM) try getting the cardex... That's a decent idea. The important thing is not what's on my particular car but what it lists as options or as standard. Anybody got one that shows the -6 options? |
