This appears to be a nice low mileage 914 for sale from a highly respected Porsche shop in NC.....Road Scholars. Not cheap.....$35K.

Since I'm not a collector or care that much about originality, I'd rather get a nice 6 conversion for that money.

Cool car. It's easy to spend the purchase price to restore one of these cars. I to would probably spend the money on a 6 conversion but the allure of 40 year old, almost new 914 is pretty neat.
And if I bought a car like that I'd drive the hell out of it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |

Fix the stance and fire it up for it's intended use. |

Love those early cars with the smooth hub caps. Clean lines.
It's ready for liftoff....what is that a 20 degree angle there? |

do to saggy rear springs Nope. Porsche cranked up the front to meet US headlight height regulations ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif) PS: Also "due to", not "do to" |

No don't get me wrong, this looks like a very nice car, but I'd really need to see more pictures and/or it in person to validate the 28k miles. It is very nice, but it looks to me like it was parked outside or has much more than 28k miles.
- rough engine grill - wavy bumper tops - front tow hook appears used (pulled down) - dash face coming unglued - muffler rust - door panels coming apart - shift knob cracked Low mileage 914s typically look much cleaner. It is neat how early and non-optioned it is though too. -Steve |

I guess the did not put a center pad on the 70 model. That tray looks different too. I have an old one that is made of vinyl covered plywood. That one looks plastic with the curve to meet the ridge re-enforcement.
Did I count 16 pictures of the hubcaps.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif) and ZERO of the engine bay? |

If it was a creamsickle with that mileage and condition, I'd be on the phone to them. Might be a gem for somebody else.

As an owner of a '70/4 for the past 41 years I am willing to forgive some of the anomalies of this apparently nice example. Those early production cars had some variation to content that were not always apparent to the casual observer.
This car is described as having the "appearance pkg." which it mostly does have. Like my 1970 (with appearance pkg.), it seems that the fog lights were never fitted by the factory. Not long after initial delivery, the originating dealer installed the correct factory spec fog lights, grille and F/L dashboard switch on my car. The appearance group included the chrome bumpers, vinyl roll bar, fog lights and a leather-covered steering wheel; the leather wheel is absent on this car. The center console between the seats is different than mine, however I have seen this item on other early MY70s. The front trunk area surrounding the spare tire looks quite odd to my eyes as it appears that there is a circular "shelf" behind where the spare is fitted in the floor. The rear valence does not appear to be the deep, all encompassing item fitted to the early cars. As a final observation, this example was built the same month (January 1970) as my car. These early cars had a slight variation in their final presentation to their first purchasers that I would overlook on the basis of originality (i.e. lack of fog lights, no leather steering wheel), but the later rear valence was not an item original to a '70/4. All that said, having seen some very marginal 914/4s sell at auction around $10,000., if indeed this car is as original as presented, I think the price is not out of line. I would, however, withhold final say until after a close inspection of the floor pan (inside as well as underneath) and the engine compartment. Paul |

That's just the shadow from the spare tire. Looks like they had multiple light sources for the photo shoot ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif) |

"The appearance group included the chrome bumpers, vinyl roll bar, fog lights and a leather-covered steering wheel; the leather wheel is absent on this car."
My 01/70/4 (4702902791) with appearance group is also missing fog lights and steering wheel cover, as delivered in March 1970. "The center console between the seats is different than mine, however I have seen this item on other early MY70s." Mine also has a different center tray with separate compartment forward, don't recall ever seeing the type of center tray this one has. "As a final observation, this example was built the same month (January 1970) as my car. These early cars had a slight variation in their final presentation to their first purchasers that I would overlook on the basis of originality (i.e. lack of fog lights, no leather steering wheel), but the later rear valence was not an item original to a '70/4." (IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) Yep, lots of differences in our early cars. Hope this one finds a good home. |

Looks to have the early interior door handles. My '70 still has one on the pass side. I'm looking for a drivers side on samba.
