Okteenerfest 2016: End of an Era - Celebrating the Porsche 914 1970-1976
September 22-25 in Banner Elk, NC. This year's theme is "End of an Era - Celebrating the Porsche 914 1970-1976" in honor of the entire production run of the Porsche 914. This year marks 40 years since the final model year of the 914 and to commemorate this "End of an Era", Okteenerfest 2016 will feature a selection of the best stock 914s in attendance. In addition to the standard categories of Stock, Modified, and Custom, a special group of 914s representing each model year will be on display at the car show. If you would like your 914 to be considered for this display, mark YES on the registration form and we will contact you for additional information. Whether your 914 is a beater, a daily driver, or garage queen, make plans now to join other 914 owners for some fantastic driving, plenty of socializing, a bit of showing off, and a truckload of give-aways. What's that? You say your 914 is on jack stands? No worries. Plan to attend anyway as there is always an empty seat available. You won't be disappointed. After two years being held in the Smokies of east Tennessee, the event was moved east into the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina in 2015. Due to popular demand, we return to Banner Elk for a second year in 2016. This year's route features portions of last year's drive with some added surprises including a small but exciting segment of The Diamondback. As usual, the day drive includes not only a ton of twisties, sweepers, and ear-popping elevation changes but plenty of stopping points to get out, stretch, and enjoy the scenic splendor of the mountains. The lunch stop this year will be in Blowing Rock, NC. If you have not been to an Okteenerfest in the past, mark this one on your calendar. Last year over 100 people attended representing 60+ 914s making Okteenerfest the largest 914 gathering in the U.S. in recent history! We expect those numbers to grow in 2016. For quickest access to information as it becomes available, join the Okteenerfest mailing list or LIKE us on Facebook. You can also visit the Okteenerfest Event listing on Facebook to let others know you will be attending. Of course, you can always visit the Okteenerfest web site. In addition to the driving, Okteenerfest features plenty of good eating, an awards ceremony, tons of give-aways from some very generous vendors, a Peoples Choice Car Show, and some of the nicest people you will ever meet gathered in a single place. Okteenerfest will be hosted this year by the Best Western Mountain Lodge in Banner Elk, NC. -------IMPORTANT LODGING INFORMATION------- Best Western Mountain Lodge - Banner Elk 1615 Tynecastle Hwy, Banner Elk, NC 28604 Phone: 828-898-4571 We have 50 rooms blocked for Okteenerfest - all together toward the back of the building. Clay,
Two years ago, I got in line with 4 914-6's leaving Fontana Dam and heading to Robbinsville, I believe for lunch. The sixes were gone and it was all I could do in my 2.0 4 to try and catch them (Bob in Huey, Bill Dunster, Clay and another). Your wife was behind me and she can really wheel a car, it was also all I could do to stay out of her way. She can really drive her 914!!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving-girl.gif) It was a great event in 2014 & an even better event in 2015, looking forward to returning in 2017 with 2 more cylinders and 105 more horses. Have a great event this year!!! Vysoc (IMG:style_emoticons/default/flag.gif) |

She was running mid pack at SCCA autocrosses with hard 165/15 tires and a bone stock 1.8L running on 3 cylinders due to a clogged injector. We started dating and I fixed that all stuff. Plus we added a set of stock sway bars. That jumped her into the top three on a regular basis. We found out later that the other two guys were having to cheat just to stay in front of her. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/first.gif) I just keep making her 914 faster, and she puts it to good use. After 30 years, she is still able to keep up with me in the twisties, I just use the six to pull away on the straight sections. At Porsche Parade in 2004, I made the comment "I have been chasing her tail for almost 20 years, and I still haven't caught it yet". That small bit of truth got lots of laughs. For 2017, I am going to bring my 914-6 with the 4.0 engine. So you may still have problems keeping up. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) |
