Hello all. Just a quick question about the panel between the front strut towers. I fully intend to leave the brace, but what about the single thickness panel? Can it go? The intention for removal would be for lightening puposes, as well as to get the "Fuel Safe" cell down low. Regards, -K-

won't help with low, but back. The bottom of the old gas tank is higher than the trunk floor. However it would allow for futher back and closer to the middle of the car. Some people like the extra fire wall between them and 12-15 gals of race fuel!!!

you can cut out an openning and leave the top as a bridge or add a 911 type brace.
The GT cars had a 100 liter tank so its doable...the strut towers would need one or the other. Best guess, see legal disclaimers and associated legalese...... |

Thanks very much for the input gentlemen. That's what I needed to know. I had started with the hole-saw, but quickly deemed the cumulative weight of the material removed to be of little benefit. I know it all adds up, but at that rate it'd take a lot of holes to see any significant gains. While were on the subject of sheet-metal removal, how about the rear trunk floor? That could easily go if the corners were gusseted and the "frame" members braced right? The thing that would concern me would be a big wad of turbulent air getting crammed up in there. One could louvre the rear trunk lid I suppose or take some other approach at venting that air mass. Thanks, -K-

Thanks for all the killer images and input. The intent is to ultimately run the car in SCCA. I have a copy of the 2004 GCR, but as I'm sure you guys are aware their rule book is provisional, not restrictive. So the GCR isn't going to come straight out and say you can't hack the floor out of your rear trunk in your 914 or whatever. At least the way I have interpereted it so far, it only has guidelines set up for weight and driveline specifications. I certainly would like a straight answer from someone about what can and can't go. Thanks, -K-
