I'm painting the floor pans this week. PO seems to have put some type of sound deadening stuff like tar or is that from the factory? i don't think i've got that on my 71.
So, since i'm POR-15'n the floor pan do i need to remove that first? or can i simply clean up the loose bits and go right over it? i'm planning on doing the underside of the floor pans too. Also, what could i use to help deaden the sound after i paint it? |

Take it down to bare metal BEFORE you POR-15 it. If not, you'll just be making a rust-sandwitch.
I used 3-4 coats of Herculiner. Others will have opinions about other deadeners like Dynamat. This stuff will also work awesome! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=5763375125 |

I used bed liner from any parts store for around 29 to 59 bucks the roll on kind (use a scraper to make it smooth then I added a layer of sound insulation (11.99) a roll)

The factory use tar in all 914's on the floorpans (inside the cabin). You'll have to remove it before you POR15. Heat gun and a putty knife work great. Brake cleaner will clean the remnants that are too tiny or in corners for putty knife work. |
