I need to send money to the UK, but i've gone to the post office and no dice. My local bank doesn't offer them. Besides a wire transfer or paypal, where else could I look. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/headbang.gif)
ps. It's funny that the post office offers international money orders to some of the wierdest of places (i.e. Nigeria, third world countries) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wacko.gif) , but they don't offer any going to the UK. |

You could simply mail a check in US dollars. Any british bank will honor it - it will just take a while.

USPS International Money Order. Simple, cheap. Sometimes we overlook the commonplace. The Cap'n

That's really weird, I was in the post office today and a lady in front of me was buying one to send to Germany. I had no problem getting money orders sent to me when I lived there. That was in the 70's but I would think it should be easy. What about traveller checks? |

Yeah I've tried that, like the first post, those can only be cashed in certain countries and the UK isn't one of them. Fiid, I think my bank told me about that, but they said that the process would cost about 45.00. |

Traveler checks, now theres an idea. I might have to look into that.
Actually I looked at the USPS website last week and I thought I saw that I can get one for the UK, but after no luck with the post office today. I looked on the website and the list looked smaller, mostly listed alot of third world countries. |

Yup...the list of countries that accept international money orders is rather small. With small amounts I've had good luck sending cash.

You can get a postal money order in Pounds from Canada Post. Max value 100 Pounds http://www.canadapost.ca/personal/offering...ey_orders-e.asp
I'd offer to send it from here for you but the reciever might think it's a scam of some sort. How about Western Union MO? |

You may want to forget about it once you see the fees (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif) but if that's the only route... |

I just ran a quote from the western union website and it's alot cheaper and faster than sending a check. I don't feel like paying an extra 45 for a process that may take a upto two weeks to clear.

Today I went to another branch to see what they had to say. The teller suggested to send a bank check and it should just clear like a normal deposit. And the process doesn't cost 45.00 like the other bank explained.
Kinda pains me to get different explainations from the same banking institution. |

I was able to cash a US cheque (in US$) like it was cash. I was a bit surprised, but pleased.
