I miss my friend Nord. He left us way too early. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) He introduced me to this amazing road and loved to drive it. So,. . .

I'm hosting a Nord memorial run up to Artist Point on Mt Baker on Saturday, August 13th. I know Nord's thing was to do a breakfast GTG and drive up in the morning, but traffic always is horrible on the mountain in the morning. So I'm purposing an evening run with a pre-run BBQ at my shop in Anacortes. So here's the plan. . .

4pm - Meet @ my shop which is about 10 miles west of I-5, exit 230 (12796 Quantum Lane #14, Anacortes, WA 98221) where I'll host a BBQ consisting of some sort of flesh, chips, sodas and such.

5:30 - We depart and cruise up Chuckanut drive and onto the Mt. Baker hwy for a mildly spirited drive up to Artist Point. By the time the road gets good, most folks on the mountain should be heading down for dinner in the opposite direction. By the time we get to the top, there should be minimal people up there and should have a clean run back down.

Folks from down south (Kevin) should miss all the traffic so you all are out of excuses!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) It would be nice to have a rough idea of who plans on attending so I have enough food.

Did you already pay for it?

Bought it used. Just need to know if he has the bracket available to buy. This is my second Triad, had Dave install my first, you're gonna love it!

I'll be late, but I'll make some of the drive. Leaving Seattle at 1630, probably hit Chuckanut around 1900. I'll be driving the opposite direction when you're coming back down.

I'm assuming Chuckanut to B'ham/Ferndale, then 542 east?

I'm super excited for tomorrow. Those who are coming, you can park anywhere it's convenient since we'll probably be the only folks in the business park Sat afternoon. Double park triple park, it doesn't matter. 914 or not; just come.

I'll have the grub ready by 4pm. I plan on having a cooler stocked with bottled water & some sodas.

If you need to gas-up, the Chevron station at the Swinomish Casino just on the opposite side of the hwy has the cheapest gas in Anacortes (currently $2.35 for Regular). Costco in Burlington is usually about 2-5 cents cheaper (I-5 exit 229 George Hopper Rd.)

When we depart around 5:30, the route we'll be taking is as follows:

hwy-20E, Bayview Edison Rd N., Farm to Market Rd N., W. Bow Hill Rd., Chuckanut Dr. N.(hwy 11), I-5N, take exit 255 onto hwy 542 East (Mt Baker hwy) follow that to Deming where we'll meet the members of the Chuckanut Sports Car Club. From there it's twisty road up about 4500' in elevation gain to spectacular views of Mt Baker and Mt Shuksan.

Nord on far right next to his silver 914. RIP my friend. . .

Gas up at Costco before going to annecortes. iirc it's the same exit off I-5 you would take going to nate's. Perhaps the next one up but close. Nicely topped off you can make it back south without stopping. Be careful. I-5 is a WSP gauntlet all the way home. Please don't drink.

I'm in! I wasn't going to since my trunk bolt sheared off so I'm rear deckless, but such a nice drive with such good people, who cares about the trunk. I'll be there with my wife Mary Anne.

Yes 128th exit chevron off I5 at 3:00pm. 214 128th Ave Sw Everett, WA 98204. Take the 128th exit just before you come into Everett, turn left go over the freeway west and the Chevron's on the left just past Denny's.

If you're coming up 405, we could meet at the Houghton park and ride in Kirkland. It's just off the 70th St exit. Figure we'd need another half hour to get to Everett.

A great time was had by all yesterday (and last night), we got home at 1:00 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)

Outside of the traffic getting through Everett Janet and myself could not have had a better time.

Nate put on a great BBQ for us, we had an exhilarating drive up the mountain once we got past a couple of slow pokes.

Standing on top a guy pulls up in a BMW Z3 and asks what's going on? I said we are doing a Memorial run for a buddy of ours. I told him how Nord use to organize a breakfast and then a run up the mountain each year, I said he meant a lot to all of us and we are not going to forget him.

Nate thanks for putting this together and making it special for all of us!
