WTB: Looking for a lower rear trunk latch in new/excellent/re-plated condition...

Something better than the oversprayed latch in the picture below.

Thanks!

Contact Bruce Stone (bdstone914) ... he probably has some re-plated ones.

The original latch was not plated or painted, just exposed cast pot metal (magnesium maybe?)

Why not just remove the paint on yours - soak it in acetone.

They are made of zinc. Can't plate zinc on zinc. I nice one will have sharp lettering. I have about 50 of them. I clean them up with a fine wire wheel. They will tarnish quickly. If you want it to stay shiny you can spray it with clear enamel. Will dig out a good one if you chose not to clean up yours.

I've had the best results when I soak it in a cleaner/solvent to get it clean and then rub it with very fine steel wool. The metal is soft and the wire wheel (IMHO) will leave striations in the metal.

Well, I was told a long time ago, to 'learn something new every day'.

Done ... now I can go home (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool_shades.gif)
