Are there any engines besides the 1600 that would fit in a VW bug with a bus transaxle. Need more power!

Yup. There are also the "Type V" or "Oxyboxer" crowd. Those who have modified the "Wasserboxer" engines with Type I parts to make large-displacement motors.

And heck, if you like welding, you can put a 911 engine in. Ask Z, he did a 356 that way and the 356 has less room than a standard Bug!

as far as that goes, if you are determined enough, you can run a Chebbie v8 in a bug... seen it, it looked scary!

The 4.1 liter GM V6 fits right into my Ghia using the Kennedy kit.

I'm sure that the Beetle would be just as easy with the rear apron removed for installation.

Luck,

What's so hard about working on the 2.0L T-IV in a 914, anyway?

Some maintenance is done from above, and the rest is done from below; seems easy enough to me. A T-1 in there would be a low HP/torque step downward, if you ask me.

You dont need to go t-4 to go fast, just build a big t-1. I have a carbed 2275 to go in my drag bug this summer and my dad has just over a 2.0 with a turbo on it. Dads car ran a 10 second 1/4 mile with that setup, not exactly streetable but just turn it down a notch and you'd be fine.

picture is of my brothers car, it runs 13's, should go 12's but has had some issues.

In 1997 I installed a 1.8 liter watercooled VW engine in my Super Beetle. It makes a nice swap although it was a bit of work and fabrication. The engine is adapted to the transaxle with a KEP adapter setup.

The completed installation: Engine is from an'88 VW Jetta. Intake manifold is from a 1.7l Dodge Omni. The carb is a 2bbl progressive Weber. I remote mounted the air cleaner which is a modified rabbit housing. The coolant overflow is from a 1984 rabbit and is mounted high in the upper right side of the engine compartment. The exhaust fits behind the stock apron with only a single tailpipe showing.

I had a 2110cc in my Baja Bug and then put it in my '62 VW crew cab.

Why did I sell that motor? 82mm stroker crank by 90.5 p/c's. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/cool.gif)

well thanks for the information and the help but he doesn't want to do an engine swap. Last year I convinced him to put a rotary in it but he changed his mind thinking that the thing would be too hard to get to work with the radiators and stuff. I then gave him the idea of putting a type 4 2.0 into the bug but he changed his mind. (WTF)
