I'll be in S-dale for a conference 9/26-28 at the Fairmont Princess, but my time looks pretty tight there, otherwise I'd love to (IMG:style_emoticons/default/drooley.gif) over your new 2L!

...Finally ended up silver with IMRON paint since 18
wheelers use IMRON paint...

DuPont's IMRON Polyurethane Coatings claim to fame
is in aviation & commercial transportation. I have no
idea now as to why I was captivated by Imron back in
1978. But I was impressed with the fact that it could
handle a plane's sub-zero temps at 35,000 feet of elevation
and, a few minutes later, be subject to extreme heat
as the plane landed in a runway in a tropical climate.
How that all translated into me picking it as the best
choice for a re-paint on the 'Bahia Red' weathered
factory paint on my 1970 911T is still a mystery to
me! The Imron 'Red' was not even close to 'Bahia'
as a color. It had an 'orange' tint to it. It was a nice
color...but not very 'original' on a Porsche of its day!

Saludos,
Eduardo
Scottsdale

PS All of DuPont's automotive coatings are now part of
Axalta. The later is still a paint supplier to PAG in Germany.
The company is based in Philadelphia.

That is coming up next. But I'll give you a preview of
what I will be posting. I found it via an old YouTube
video. And then I traced it down to its (then) owner.

Nice history write-up, Eduardo ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/welcome.png)

There are a lot of 914 folks in the PHX area to keep you company. I bought further north, up in the mountains where the temperatures are a bit cooler - and it came with lots of garage space (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Looking into the Toy Barn Condos, though (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) ... thanks for the link (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Great story, Eduardo. We may have crossed paths during your time in Southern Cal & POC. I also knew Dave Bozaglou, Bill Folmer, Ken Beckers and all the great POC people. I ran my first time trial at Riverside in March 1985. I was lucky enough to purchase a 1973 914 2.0, found some belts and one week later I was on the track, stock tires & EMPI wheels. Tom Marx was my instructor. Took first place due to the shortage of drivers.
You are absolutely right about turn two. We used to sit on the inside wall by S/F and watch to see who used any brake going into turn 1.
I also had a 64 356 SC. Just sold that to Paul Bernardo. I also time trialed his 73 914-6 RS. That was one fast car, but still got passed just before turn 9 at Riverside by Torres in his 935.
I was #141, a 73 914 2.0 painted all white...with IMRON. I retired in Nov 1990, Laguna Seca was the last time trial. My daughter was 1, and my wife had enough of holding the baby and flashing times at me at midcourse. We moved to Michigan two years later, cars and all remaining parts. The Porsches sat dormantly in the side of the garage. 25 yrs later, my son is graduating as a teacher, and my daughter has moved to Seattle. I am feverishly in the midst of refurbishing the 914. I sold the 356 in October to Paul Bernardo. I just retired in Feb 2013 and with the money from the 356 I am going to soon be back on the track. Now 30 years later it is a whole new ballgame restoring & repairing the 914 back to the track. With Pelican, 914 World and Auto Atlanta, along with youtube it is a novice mechanics dream come true.
My good fortune is also here with me in Waterford as we now have the new M-1 track on Woodward in Pontiac and the established Waterford Hills, both within 5 min of my house.
I really enjoyed your story and so glad to bring up the old memories of POC.

Yes, I knew Bill Folmer, Ken Beckers & Paul Bernardo too.
I think at that around that time (or shortly thereafter) Bill's
famous relative owned the P-dealer at nearby Riverside.

One story that I will never forget was of someone getting
'shot at' on their way to Riverside International for a POC
event. A motorcycle gang member had taken a shot at
Bill's girlfriend or wife (as I recall, but it could have been
someone else in the group) while driving their car on the
freeway. The bullet hole was still on the A pillar of their
Audi 5000!

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/screwy.gif)

By coincidence, another then POC guy that I keep in touch
is Bob Heinz of Santa Barbara. He drove a 911S ('white' I
believe) & he was usually pretty damn fast. He was a son
of a German mechanic that had set up a shop in the Santa
Barbara area. There was also a house painter that drove a
356 race car (Speedster, Conv D or Roadster) in our group.
He was pretty good at it too! And there was this other guy
with a 'Hispanic' last name (Aragon, or something similar)
that had a tire & alignment shop in coastal Los Angeles
(Torrance, I believe). Nice guy with a beautiful wife! I am
going to have to ask Dave Bozaglou to remind me of all of
those names.

By the way, POC has radically change since 'our' time back
in the 1980's. It is now dominated by folks that bring their
Porsches in large racing trucks, staffed with mechanics &
caterers. The POC even dropped their iconic old logo...and
designed this new badge instead:

Is that you about to drive the 918 Weissach after
my short stint at the wheel at The Thermal Club?
That was back in November of 2013 & it was a
super fun ride!

Yessir that be me "The moment before the moment"!
We did catch some good drives that day. The red 911 rabbit-car out in front of our 918s was not too shabby either. They said No Passing it but I drafted him a little ! I wonder if we had to pay for any accidental damage that might have come up (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)
Recall that insane downpour just after the track closed ?
