The random floating bits make it clear I still have lots to learn about Fusion. But it also shows that a Maserati M139 mated to an inverted 996 trans will fit in my 914 and have in-range axle angles and ground clearance.

Digital proof of concept is complete.

I guess now all I have to do is make the call to buy all the stuff I need.
Anyone have a 996 trans they don't need? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Very nice! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif)

Looks like the top, now the bottom, of the gearbox bell housing will be the lowest point of drivetrain maybe?
Is the KEP plate sticking out a lot decrasing ground clearance?

Looking forward to seeing that lower line of the combo. Interesting to see how low the center of gravity can be brought.

Definitely another cool project to follow! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

You can always inquire over at California Motor Sports transmissions, in Lake Havasu >> might have one available ali ready for inverted use. Ring Gear on the 996 will not 'Flip to the opposite side...so you run the trans nverted. Strong gearbox too !

@Maltese Falcon Marty - You beat me to it. On Friday, I spoke with Roger at California Motor Sports and ordered the trans. They built the Boxster 6-speed that's in the car now. Anyway, He has a core 996 C4 box in-house so that's being rebuilt, converted to 2WD and inverted. I may add LSD (if it didn't have that optioned from the factory) and do the same higher Albins 3.0 R&P to help the gearing. Again, I did that in the Boxster trans it it's a nice upgrade.
And the Kennedy order form is sitting in my in-box. Oh boy, here we go again...

@tygaboy speak to Roger or Shaun about the oe limited slip (if oe equipped) . The stock factory settings remove a bunch of 'Action on deceleration, so CMS can adjust+ re-set to a proper LSD.

While you are at CMS have them put a pair of their billet 996 drive flanges in your build !

You know you're working with the right upholstery guy when he shows you pics of how he leather wrapped your seat hinge risers (and the other chassis bits) and bound the German square weave around the openings... The other carpet has yet to be final sized and bound but Holy Jebus, this thing is going to look soooooo good.

That upholstery is beautiful, but shouldn't you paint before upholstery?

@Lilchopshop Yes, you should! But that's not the way everyone's schedule is working out. You'd have to have followed my build closely to know but most all the carpeting is on detachable panels so I can easily remove the entire interior. The few pieces that are attached are done so with very light tack glue and pull right off. So they're just in to get final trimming. Not ideal maybe, but the guy doing the work says it's totally no-risk.
And here are a couple more progress pics - which don't do it justice. It looks so nice.

You cannot have too much leather! Very nice Chris.
It all adds up in those little details, and that makes it so fine

WOW! well, once you do go to paint, your assembly will go fast, since all this stuff will be ready and waiting for installation!!.

Beautiful work! deserving of this car for sure.

As mentioned, the carpet glues to a carbon fiber panel. The pic of me holding one of them shows it covered with my "this will do until the professionals take over" cheap-ass product.

But now it's all edge-bound German square weave. Check out what a great job he did keeping it so the binding is exactly visible at the foot board - as well as the great fit everywhere else. Do I get partial credit for my interior since I made the panel? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Who cares? I could not be happier!

@tygaboy 's theme song with all that beautiful work

...You're one of those guys who likes to shine his machine
You make me take off my shoes before you let me get in
I can't believe you kiss your car good night
Now come on, baby, tell me, you must be jokin', right?...

Chris is only on version/design change/rebuild 687. He can't paint until he gets to version/design change/rebuild 914.
