The last few years I have barely touched my car, maybe drive it once/month to move the fluids and keep the tires from being too square.
Last year I spent a bunch working through my backlog and telling myself I'd drive it more (fixed a bunch of oil leaks, restored the original 6 heat exchangers, etc.) annnnd I haven't. So what to do. I've been with a 914 since 1995 (hello Porschephiles mailing list!) - so there's a fair bit of a inertia there.. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) If I do sell it, what's the best way to sell a somewhat unique (tastefully unique?!) conversion car? Slap it on eBay and wait? You will probably get a few PMs about it based on this post.
How about some more details on it? What do you mean conversion? Is it a six? |

Great looking car. Why wouldn't you offer it on world first? At least we know what a 914 is. If it doesn't sell, you can always go to eBay or BAT later.

Looks like a real beauty. I would be interested in learning more and possible looking at it when I'm in NoCal in early November. I would think many other world members would also be interested. Keep us posted on your plans.

I see what appears to be a great looking car. I would offer it up here and if no buyers, (doubtful) put it on BAT.

I've seen this car a couple of times and it's a real gem.
I would've grab it without hesitation but I don't have a place to store it until I move next summer... |

Thanks guys - and great to hear from you Valy, glad you're still at the 914!
I'd really have to dig through 30 years of records, but off the top of my head: 1973 914-6 2.7L Conversion Original California car, records going back to the early 80s. Conversion with mostly factory parts: 911SC front end with Bilstein inserts 914-6 stub axles 914-6 oil tank 914-6 heat exchangers (restored ~2 years ago) 6" genuine Fuchs wheels under slightly rolled fenders, 225-50 tires Engine: Otto's Rebuilt 2.7L with modified cams, machined case, etc. Receipts over $18,000+ back in the late 90s. Compression 175 across all 6, ~10,000 miles on it Added Carrera hydraulic tensionsers ~2 years ago 40IDA3C Weber Carbs Crane ignition Cosmetic: Non-stock metallic blue over original Olympic blue, from the late 90s. Repro polished stainless steel early-style bumpers, undrilled front bumper, new factory chromed fog grills New bumper tops Center reflector insert Fresh wiper arms and nuts Rust bubbles from bad windshield install, jackpoints should be ground off and replaced Hell hole is solid, as is the rest of the car Interior: Remanufactured dash top with ashtray delete German loop carpet in cinnamon Brown vinyl interior 9/10 Restored gauges + custom 4 gauge (oil, temp, volts, fuel) Momo prototipo steering wheel + offset spacer for more leg room 6" round speaker pods 8" fiberglass subwoofer in passenger footrest location Factory leather shift gaitor New aluminum door sills Lots of fresh gaskets and other details Others: Brakes & suspension gone through - replated & rebuilt rear calipers, rebuilt front calipers and new MC, Bilstein HD shocks + Ground Control coilovers Optima Redtop AGM battery Many many other small details I'm sure I've forgotten Stuff todo: Fresh air blower doesn't work Fog lights disconnected |

Beautiful!
Votes are already cast and the polls are closed but elections go on forever these days so is it too early to nominate this for next COTM? Steve |

Steve I just realized that this posting could be considered insensitive to the newly voted on COTM. The current winner deserves their time and I meant nothing negative towards their car. My comments were meant to compliment to dems car. My apologies. |

ohmygod omygod ohmogod ohmygod!
Gorgeous 914! I, along with many others I'm sure, would love to have the opportunity to buy it. Unfortunately for me, this is probably a $30-$40K car and that's way out of my range. As others stated though, put up a well thought out ad with loads of pictures in the "world" classified section. If you get no bites in the range you are hoping to get, then try other places. If you are a PCA member, list it on the PCA site. Pelican, The Samba, and even craigslist. Then if that doesn't work, BAT is probably next. |

That is pretty car, it a shame not driven more often, but that happens.
Too nice of car for me! If you do sell it, someone sure will be getting a nice car, let's hope they drive and enjoy it like you used to! |

Ha, I guess I need to wash it (it has been 2 years.. bit dusty!) and take a bunch of pictures. Didn't mean to turn it into a "for sale" thread (hopefully I get cut some slack for owning 914s for 20+ years.)
Valuation on these cars is always tricky, outside of mint/original cars. $30K or so smells about right and go from there depending on interest and market appetite? |

If you really think you would drive it more, then drop it at a competent shop and have them address the niggling issues that annoy you and that have prevented you from driving it.
On the other hand, if even fixed up you don't think you would drive it more (ie, it doesn't ride, drive, sound like you used to appreciate it) then maybe its time to let it go to someone else. Either way, the car would then be ready to either use or sell! Looks nice! |
