Engine Tin
I need the 2 center pieces in this add for my 1.7. This seller is selling other parts for a 75 2.0 so I believe the tin is for it as well.
Will they fit on my 1.7?
Tx

No, the 1.7 tin is different. I have some 1.7 tin available. I did find a couple of lower pieces, Just getting them cleaned up. One is missing a tab, that is very common.

hmmm, (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/dry.gif) I thought the only difference was the spark plug hole location

Right ............... It'll fit just fine. Better use some REAL long life spark plugs, the self energizing kind that don't use wires ................... The Cap'n

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/agree.gif) Right on Cap'n

Prior to 73 there was a funky duct on the flywheel end to bring warm air up. Not having seen many, I speculate it went to the air cleaner and there was a thermostatic valve regulating the flow. Probably a starting aid.

I did buy a new right half 2.0 cover that had a funny dip between the cylinders. Don't know why it was there. Wasn't on the original 73 & 74 parts.

Just to show there are a few different versions of those pieces.

the only 2 pieces that are different are what goes over the head... but they are pretty different... I SUPPOSE you could weld up the old holes and cut new ones... if you are THAT determined to use what you got though

The two central pieces in the top photo of that Evil-bay ad will work just fine; they're the same for all years of four-cylinder 914.

There were only a few differences to the engine tin over the years.
* First, the spark plug holes were moved outward on the 2.0 liter engine tin. You can weld them up and cut new ones, but that's a pain. Doable, though.
* Next, the 72 cars (some or most or all of them) had the warm air duct in the rear vertical piece of engine tin.
* The left-side "warm air guide" at the very bottom of the engine (bolts onto the sump and the exhaust) changed for the 73 model year to accomodate the side-shifter's rear shift rod.
* Finally, both of the "warm air guides" changed for the 75 model year because the exhaust that they bolt up to is shaped rather differently than the 70-74 exhaust.

...Oh, and quite a few of the main front pieces of engine tin had their right-front corners hacked off to fit the air conditioning compressor. One of the reasons I don't like the dealer-installed AC...

AFAIK, those are the only real differences in the engine tin. The rest should be swappable with no problems. And that includes the parts shown in that particular evil-bay auction.

Thanks Dave.
I'm still the high bidder and feel better about it. I was going to make them fit anyhow but this just means it will be easier.
If the Ebay falls through I'll PM Davep for his.
