I bought a midland CB for my truck. The truck already had an antenna mounted from an 800MHz radio (which had been removed). I hooked up the CB utilizing that antenna, very fine guage but stiff, about like wire from a steel brush, and about 18 inches in length. End result: range of about two blocks. I also bought a two foot tuneable (?) antenna that I could mount where the 800MHz was. Do you think the problem was the antenna, the cable to the antenna (left over from the 800MHz radio) or something else? Thanks.

The problem is the length of the antenna and the design of the loading coil. These are very frequency sensitive so, using an antenna designed for 800 MHz means you're a long way from home if you're running CB at either 27 MHz or 49 MHz.

Two words -> Radio Shack.

K-40 is an excellent CB antenna also need to adjust with an SWR meter for optimum performance
