Maybe since Porsche assembled the car, not Karman. But I'm just guessing.

I think that is more common than you would think. They just took one to install , even if it was a different color. Although I have never seen it , I understand it is possible to find handwritten things on them, like a name from the factory employee.
You are doing a great project, looks good ! |

Maybe since Porsche assembled the car, not Karman. But I'm just guessing. I though Karmann built all the bodies. Then the bodies were shipped, the -4's were assembled on the VW line in Osnabruck and the -6 were assembled in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen by Porsche. That's what I said, assembled, not built. |

Sorry that I did not see this years ago. The number on the underside of the dash is the Porsche Production # and is the link to the vehicle production order. In the third position it has "0" for the 1970 production year. The number in the rear trunk is the Karmann body # and it follows the same format as the production number (unlike the 914-4) but is missing the year digit in 1970; that was corrected for 1971 & 1972. They are different because Karmann and Porsche did not synchronize them until much later in 1970; this was true of the 911 & 912 as well.
