Not only does the tow hook screw into it, aftermarket ski racks were designed to fit there as well. The Cap'n

I don't, but I'm sure there are listers who do. Bottom piece goes there, the top piece bolte under the roll bar on the left side. 2 holes there, too. You might not have noticed them, but they're there .................. The Cap'n

I've seen the holes. I have a ski rack and I've always wondered how it went on (I think its missing some parts). Maybe someone with a pick will chime in.

I'll take a stab at the question "why isn't the tow hook in the center of the car"
I suspect that the location to the side is a stronger point to pull from. it isn't really a "tow" hook, as you'd wouldn't tow your car with it. it is really meant to serve as a pull point to pull a stuck car out of mud, snow, ditch etc... There is also one in the front of the car, it is a hoop mounted under the spare tire well. i suspect that the "tow hook: were added later in the design stage, after the design of the trunk floor, muffler location, heat shield were finalized. There is little room under the car to center the "tow hook mount" in the rear, and it would interfer with the license plate location. off to the side there was room to put it, and since it is near the corner of the trunk floor, it is more re-inforced. Anyway thats my best guess for the location. |
