Hi all,

It's a little bit early, but I wanted to get a post out there for a SoCal New Year's Day run, which we have done (pretty) consistently for several years.

The route will be in and around the San Gabriel Canyon/GMR/Glendora Ridge/Baldy Rd area, as we have done in the past. We can figure out details, including meeting time and place, as we get closer to 1/1/17.

All of the above assumes that roads will be clear for a drive; I and others will drive them prior to 1/1 to make sure we take a route that is open and clear.

Oh--if you want to drive somethign other than your 914, that's fine too! I brought my 928 in 2013 and had a blast with all the cute little 914s! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif)

See you soon!

Chris

Have you checked to see if it ...GMR is open?

It has been closed for a while.

It was open a couple of weeks ago, the last time I went up. Will be up there again in the coming weeks to make sure we have a viable route for 1/1.

Red Flag warning.

FIRE danger. Not like there is anything left to burn.

Is this happening? When will details be available?

Do you need any volunteers to drive it beforehand? I live in nearby and am looking for an excuse to drive my car! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving-girl.gif)

They usually close Gmr around holidays because people like to go up there and shoot off fireworks.

I'm in if the roads are open. I just met Ben @ Pavilion's, Monrovia.

Highway 2 to Mt. Wilson is always open sans snow. It's beautiful up in the Waterman area.

GMR has been open every time we have done a New Years' Day morning drive, so we should assume it's going to be open again this year...unless next week's forecasted precipitation dumps snow up there (not likely).

I'll plan to drive up there next Friday (12/30) and Saturday (12/31) to make sure the roads are open and clear. If not, we can always pick a different route at the last minute...which, if necessary, will be posted on this thread.

Let's meet at Starbucks in Monrovia (in the Pavilions parking lot on Foothill) at 6:30am. We'll plan to roll out around 7am.

KEEP IN MIND THAT THE ROADS ARE ALWAYS VERY ICY ON 1/1 MORNING. SOMEONE SPINS EVERY YEAR. LET'S STAY ALERT.

Awesome that you just met Ben @ Pavilions!

I think they actually salt ACH when it snows up there, so we may not want to go that route. I'm thinking that if, for some reason, GMR is closed, we just blast up 39 to Crystal Lake.

See you soon...

Sure! Heading up there a few times next week, including 12/30 and 12/31...
