Regarding the oil return line (from the engine scavenge line). The line/hose screws onto a fitting. Does the fitting for this line screw into female threads on the oil tank??

I can see the 32mm hex head on this fitting, but I do not want to put a wrench on it and find that it is welded in and damage the tank.

The tank is still in the car. I had it out last year for a paint/refurbish but do not remember exactly the arrangement at that fitting. I would prefer not to have to remove the tank. Thanks

The large hex you see is a nut, which is one of three fasteners that secures the tank to the car. That same threaded boss is the where the short flex line that goes through the left engine shelf attaches. Do a search on 914-6 oil tank diagram, and you find what you need.

Not sure what all you are asking, just that you don't want to remove the tank for
whatever other job you are not mentioning.

The oil tank lines at the bottom and side are both male. The hoses that attach to
these should never need to be removed unless the tank needs to come out.

yep, I was able to do some work this afternoon and found that that fitting is a welded in nipple with a retention nut that helps hold the tank in the car.

I am ordering fittings for an oil cooler set up. Any one know the thread size on that nipple?? I am thinking 26 x 1.25 Thanks

How does it hold the tank in the car? I have never seen that on any of the 6 tanks I have ever seen. The 8mm studs are the only thing that holds them in the car..

The bottom fitting that goes into the engine bay is longer than you would think
is necessary and has a very thin nut that pulls it against the wall.

Have you been able to locate the above thin nut?
I need one as well for my car.

The PET shows it as 900 183 006 02 and confirms it as M26 x 1.5. Certainly available somewhere as a "generic".

Silly me. Should have checked that first (IMG:style_emoticons/default/whack_3.gif)

M26 is an oddball. Neither Belmetric nor Carr McMaster carry such a beast. I have an inquiry in overseas.

I have the taps to make the oil fittings.. I could probably buy some hex and then drill and tap on a lathe and cut off to desired thickness?

It looks like this, with a shoulder. 5.5mm thickness in total.

I found several choices at mrmetric.com. None as thin as the original. Some quick work on a belt sander could fix that.

Never used mrmetric but the site says they accept small orders.

That would work Ben. The nipple is about 1.25 long

Mocal carries The 26 x 1.5 hose fittings. The guy there said they sell them to Porsche guys a lot.

Yea you are right. When I searched the site for M26 and all the nuts came up I thought they were all M26. None of them actually are

Searched a couple other sites....nothing. No one actually even lists it on a size chart.

Looks like you would have to make one from a hose fitting (Mocal does have them) or maybe Ben can make some.
