I have a 75 that is L20E but the Chart says they were not made, is the chart incorrect, are there others out there?

George,
Yours could be a repaint to Signal Orange L20E or a customer special order when new, but that would usually show a 98 or 99 code at the Karmann Plate at the driver's front door jamb. I don't know if you're going by the Karman Plate, or a COA for the L20E. Repaints were not at all uncommon - mine had 4 different colors from it's original L80E Light Ivory - Sahara Beige then Gold in it's 1st 3 years since new before I bought it from the OO, then I did Copper & Anthracite Metallics myself. p914.com also has a good color section with photos of 914s in most actual factory original colors, but you may have to try tomorrow, because I'm having trouble getting on there right now. You may also have to manually change the links to .org or .net on there, if he's still rebuilding his websites from lightening damage earlier this year. Try this, then change the links on it to .org manually..... http://www.p914.org/p914_paint.htm L20E Signal Orange was a 70-74 MY color: http://www.p914.org/p914_paint_74.htm http://www.p914.org/p914_paint_L20E_73.htm But 75 MY had the very close L20C Nepal Orange: http://www.p914.org/p914_paint_75.htm http://www.p914.org/p914_paint_L20C_75.htm Are you sure you don't have that color? I am reading the L20E on the Karmann Plate. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) George, can you post a good pic of that & of the VIN sticker on the rear driver door jamb on here? Just guessing here, but it could've been a "C" that looks like an "E" - or an early 75 MY built in say Aug/Sept 74 where they did spray it L20E, or that Hans or Franz didn't get the memo to change to L20C for the new `75 MY .... or ???? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) Between the VIN sticker's date & the Karmann Plate's Chassis # we can get to the exact-ish build date for it, to place it in the MY timing. Now you have me wondering. I will look at my 75 Nepal Orange to make sure it says L20C

That is Signal Orange, no doubt about it. And your VIN is well into '75, so no mistake there either.
My guess would be someone special ordered it that way ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thumb3d.gif) |

Looks right to me on build date & clearly L20E, & I'd tend to agree with Andy that it could be a special order. It's worth getting a COA on it, & "mentioning Panorama" magazine gets you $10 off IIRC.
