McMark took some time out of his busy schedule to fly to CA and help me get my /6 rolling.

It will be traveling to Original Customs in Michigan soon to begin its transformation into a running and driving car.

Moved on to the front end. We have a cut section from another car to swap in. The right fender well is gonna need a lot of massaging to bring back into place. This will give me access, and as I mentioned previously, fitting the new piece will illustrate any minor misalignment.

More work to do here, but the next big step will be fitting the new longitudinals.

I get a little wave of anxiety every time you post that emoji. I better start making it look like more of a car soon so you can post happier emojis. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smash.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/welder.gif)

SirAndy has nothing to worry about - but I do understand the anxiety. I am quite certain McMark has got this. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

It's all good. I knew that section had to go (i'm the one who got the replacement panel), but it still feels rather weird seeing this all cut out like that.

Andy,

Are you going to take the drive train out of your red car and put it in this 6?

Little more progress. Got a few small wrinkles worked out of the center tunnel.
Attached Image Attached ImageAttached Image

Also built a measuring device (I've since learned it's called a tram gauge) to check measurements left to right or from my purple car to Andy's 6. So I made a few adjustment tweaks to pull the front shock towers into alignment.

@McMark

Mark,

Could you post a few pics of the front upper strut and front suspension fixtures ?

I purchased a bench and need to figure out the front fixture portion of it.

TIA

I look at this thread when I feel overwhelmed by my project. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Nice work going on and at the end of the day another 914/6 will be saved. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif)

How is this car coming along?

It is great that you are saving it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/first.gif)

I understand that the 914 limo is probably holding it up. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif)

Just kidding, my other 914 project is going on 10 years in (slow) progress now.

Yeah, I'm still alive...

Built a lot of jigs, measured a lot, and scratched my head a lot trying to make sure everything will line up where it needs to go. Finally got to the part where I start putting metal back into place. And guess what I learned? This inner long piece is about 0.25" shorter than the original. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

Gotta figure out how I'm gonna deal with this. Maybe there's another brand, or maybe I'll CAD one up and have my CNC lasercut & bending shop make me a custom one. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/head_hurts_kr.gif)

I have been waiting to see some progress pictures of Andy's Six. Nice to see some new metal going on. That is a huge thing in a build. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)
