Did someone organize a bumper rechroming group buy in the past? I thought I read that some where? I was wondering if it was worth to try and organize another one?

Is there a preferred re-chroming vendor here?

Ogden always comes up but I think most bumper people with enough interest would do a group buy

If something comes up, let me know...i'm looking for a chromer too.

MY 356 friend went with Paul's Chrome because and they did well, not sure about relative price, but his car won shows after it was done...

I was part of the last group buy and the finish while nice and shiny was not flat and full of waves.

Here's a thread on SS bumpers, replating and the rechrome group deal.
One thing mentioned is the 914 bumper is quite thin, likely why the cheap job came out wavey.

http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?sho...42088&st=20

You know you can get brand new stainless steel bumpers for about $1000 a pair. Edit sorry I'm out of date, the SS bumpers have gone way up in price $1600/pr. see link

If they were still $1k a pair it'd be a no brainer...maybe we group buy the SS bumpers and get a discount ?

I have a contact that could likely beat any price Harrington offers on a Stainless steel bumper group buy.
The only thing is they likely would need a half decent set of bumpers (not chrome OK) sent to them for a pattern.

I could ask but need to know how many would be interested.

Here is a place that does huge quantities. They had an entire semi trailer full of bumpers and were doing core swaps for all types of vintage cars. I met them at the Fall Auctions America Auburn Show this past fall. Very nice guys. My email correspondence with them is below:

Hello-

I met you guys at the Auburn Fall show. Thanks for putting up with all my questions.

Here is a photo of the Porsche 914 bumper that I need repaired (dent) and re-chromed.

Please let me know what it would cost. Also please let me know the difference for either shipping, or picking up on March 5-6 at the Indianapolis State Fairgrounds.

Thanks!

cs

Hi Corey
914 Porsche front and rear are $650 each to repair and
rechrome. You can send us your cores and we'll deliver
them to Indy in March of 2017.. We can also rechrome a
a pair and deliver them to Indy. Save shipping on both ways.
We charge $40 each handling fee to take them out for you.
We open them up for your inspection and repack them.
Call us 7 weeks in advance to order.
Thanks
Bob

That (or a Harrington group buy) would be interesting.

Put me down for two (or even three) complete sets if the price can get to around $1k/set

I don't really have a good front bumper and the rear is chrome and that is pretty nice. I would be good with even raw as I have a polisher that is local that does a fantastic job.

Here is another idea which is what I did. I had a friend who works at a local body shop it's a national franchise one, asked did he have a good place to hammer out a few dents and rechrome my front bumper, no problem he sent it out to a place they have a contract with and added $50 on top of his cost for their shop total was $375 and it was perfect. The chromer was a place in Minnesota I will try to get the name of it and post it. Place was Keystone in Brainerd, MN

At 650.00 each to fix and rechrome and 40.00 each to deliver, plus shipping to get them there.. you are around 300.00 less than new stainless ones..

Anyone that thinks they will get the Harrington ones for 1000.00 a set ... Good luck with that...
