I shot off an email to the peep I dealt with before at Harrington's competition, let's see what their price is. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif)

At 650.00 each to fix and rechrome and 40.00 each to deliver, plus shipping to get them there.... ....... did he have a good place to hammer out a few dents and rechrome my front bumper, no problem he sent it out to a place they have a contract with and added $50 on top of his cost for their shop total was $375 and it was perfect. This is the thing about getting a quote for a group buy on rechroming, one person's bumper may need 2-4 hours of prep time and another's 3-4 days. How do you make a fair, "one price fits all" for that? The guys with one dent and two scratches helps pay for the prep time for the guys with rusted out, full of holes POS? Just wondering.... Just think it is one of those things that you get what you pay for. It is just hard to give everyone a standard price. |

Anyone that thinks they will get the Harrington ones for 1000.00 a set ... Good luck with that... I just might! would any one be interested in $1000/set 304 Stainless bumpers? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif) If we could get 20 sets I bet it's doable. Also for safety sake they are paypal friendly, good reputation, since 2010, like Harrington out of Vietnam, etc. They would need good examples of each bumper. Any interest? |

Mark:
If you can find someone besides Harrington to reproduce bumpers in Stainless, that would be great.. My reply was more pointed toward anyone thinking Harrington would drop their 1700.00 price to 1000.00 for a group buy. If someone wants to try, I guess it can't hurt to ask though. The guy I dealt with at Harrington was a marketing manager and seemed like a nice enough guy. If you are going to send a set of bumpers to someone to make the dies from, be sure to send an early rear bumper. Harrington only has the later ones . Early rears would open a whole new market for 914-6 restorations.. |

Early rears would open a whole new market for 914-6 restorations.. That likely can be done BUT someone would have to step up and supply a sample bumper. I'm positive that the bumper would not be harmed and returned, but of course you would be running the shipping risk. I believe it's shipped through Fed-Ex. BTW I'm keeping some details under wraps for now, but I'm not looking to make any coin on the deal. Just any out of pocket for sample bumper shipping, etc. |

Here's another "data point" for you guys.
I just ordered a set of the stainless bumpers from Harrington. $1691 delivered to me in Oregon. I really don't think there is any way you'll get them for $1000...no matter how big the group buy. Maybe $1400 if you're lucky. So that said, if you're not willing to put out that kind of cash, look in a different direction. Smart people have said already that some folk's bumpers are in better shape than others. So that really does make it tough for a "group buy" vendor to supply "one price" for everyone. Words of wisdom. If you can find a more inexpensive vendor that can take care of everyone....that's great. If not, some folks will be sorely disappointed. Not a great thing for a "group buy." Think this out very carefully, as you don't want it to blow up with some of your members. |

One purchase and done. Especially if they can customize for me and leave off the front license plate holes. |

Here's the latest poop on these bumpers from Harrington:
The price for a set of Porsche 914 bumpers is USD 1,661 including shipping. Please note that we supply two types of Porsche 914 bumpers: in EU Version and US Version- please let me know which one you require. As far as I know, there are 2 types of the rear bumpers for Porsche 914: early type (the edges of the indent are square) and the later type (the edges of the indent are round). I have attached a photo at the bottom of this email. Please let me know which type you require. Both the front and the rear bumpers can come with or without holes for the number plates. The rear bumper can also come with or without hole for tow hook (please see pictures below). Please advise if you want to have these holes pre-drilled. We also supply the tow plug for an additional of USD 30. Please let me know if you are interested. We can have the bumpers ready for shipping within 35 working days after receipt of payment and confirmation. Shipping is with DHL airfreight which only takes 3-4 days straight to your door. With regards to payment - we accept Paypal, Bank transfer. In case you decide to order, please let me know which method you prefer, I will then send you more details.[b] So pretty much ala carte....as you like. |

I'm not dealing with Harrington (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif)
Don't know the ballpark yet and it would depend on how many on a group buy, but USA spec VW ghia bumpers which are 8 or 9 separate pieces for each bumper are $900/set. I'd call them excellent from 5 feet, not absolutely perfect but pretty damn good. They also lose a couple of points because stainless isn't quite as shiny as chrome. But on the pro side stainless could be repaired in case of mishap. Right now they said they would work with us on a price and send a trial set for fitment. I could send the boys bumpers they are drivers quality, but I don't have a /6 rear bumper. Like Harrington they make these bumpers by hand. If there is enough interest I will pursue this further. |

I think for example if they sold a bumper for let's say 400 each they would sell them so fast they wouldn't know what to do.. Lots of folks out there want a cost effective option and can't or won't afford 1600 for bumpers..
