...The article says it had a unique prototype 2.9L putting out 345 hp....

That would make it quite a handful...of fun... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)

I’d love to hear details of the assembly from Steve. There looks to be a lot of large and small differences from a typical 914-6. Some parts similar to a GT and others unlike any other car.

That was ok but I’m sure there’s a lot more to the car.

Not really, We got this car as a pile of junk, and completely dismantled it to a bare body shell and began to rebuild the wreck and rust and horror for two years, finally reassembling it and locating many many many missing parts. Please remember that this car started as a stock 914-6 NOT build from a body in white as the rest of the 916s were, so it was virtually a "conversion job".
A couple of things though: Installing the headliner was a challenge as we actually had no idea how it was installed until we looked at our 916 and even that was not good enough as we could not take it out to see how it was done. The car had a wooden floor board and attachment stop on the passenger side just like a 911, and the seats, although looking like a stock 914 seat were taller with webbing in the bottom rather than the fiberglass bucket. The oil lines, GT tank, and some of the wiring was a challenge, but the rest was just like a 914 reassembly that we do here every day

Just knowing what went into the 2.9 engine to get it to 325hp would be pretty cool. Was there any body reinforcement done. Oil line detail, suspension setup, ect.

the engine builder Drew would know all about that, suprisingly the engine looked good inside when taken apart, virtually a racing engine.
car had chassis stiffening installed yes.

X2 - how did they do 345hp?

a 88-89 3.2 was 215hp

... the period 2.0 911R was about 200-210 with IDAs, which itself is hard to understand

High compression (race gas only), spin it fast, optimize it for top-end power. Hey, it only has to last 24 hours before rebuild, right?

2.0 race engines used to get 220-240, now they are making 265-280. I think Brutus had an engine from an RSR or something similar so 345 sounds right. It probably isn't easy to drive around the neighborhood but a blast on the autobahn.
