Hey @JWest , with your zero decibel setup, how did you handle reverse lockout?

I haven't done anything to lockout reverse. I haven't had any problems nicking it or anything. Didn't know they did anything special for that (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Got my rebuilt motor! Pushed my car out of hibernation new years eve. Started pulling off the misc pieces on top. Need to drain the radiator. Unhook everything to drop my motor. Man it's been a few years since I've done that. LOL! I have quick jacks but those don't go high enough. I think I'll work a few different things though to get the ass end up high enough. I am missing my mid-rise scissor lift already. Keeping my eye's open for another.

With my new motor. I am also adding Air conditioning. I'm also doing an air to water inter cooler setup. Will be mocking up that all pretty soon. Plan is to pull the drivetrain this weekend. I also have a LSD to install into a tranny before mating it to my new motor. . So plenty of good things to come. I've got a new kid inspiring me to do something different with my turbo. The garret 16g he thinks we can do better. I've got a brand new cobb 20g but didn't run that because it doesn't start to spool till about 3500 rpms. I stuck with the 16g as it starts around 3000rpms. Love to find one that spools even earlier. Anyway I've got to read up on turbo's a little more & school myself so I understand my options better. Happy to be working on my 914 again

Good to hear you're back at it! Starting to spool at 3k isn't a bad thing unless you really need it for autocross, or just keep it in a lower gear for the punch when you need it. A ceramic ball bearing turbo will make the difference in spool time as well. Hope to see you at an event this year!

Dang fellas that's quite a bit of bad luck. Sorry to hear. Jamie was your turbo engine an Ej20k? Those are known for blowing up I think. Bearing issues/oil starvation. I hope you have better luck with the new one. The EZ will bolt right in but hopefully third time's the charm.

Mike your EG33 is knocking??? That's pretty unusual.

Yeah, it overheated again and seemed to go terminal. I dropped it and pulled it all apart and was rewarded with good news, comparatively. It was a stressed out head gasket. Took .004" out of the heads, replacing bearings and rings. Upper rod bushings are good as is the crank so I had it polished. New chrome rings and a custom built radiator should really help it live a long life. The 200 miles I put on it before things went south were amazing and frustrating, hopefully a learning experience. The knocking was from the oil carbonizing in the lifters. An hour in Benco followed by cleaning out with Brakekleen and soaking in oil while pumping them to work the oil in should make the difference. New lifters are not available so far as I've seen...still searching the internet for solutions and will use my old ones if necessary.
Happy New Year, you crazy Teeners!
