QUOTE(dcheek @ Mar 10 2017, 03:42 PM) *

Got a call from the mechanic today. Great news, carbs were cleaned, linkages lubed, installed a new set of points and it started right up. Of course this was with an external gasoline source, as the tank is coated with rust. Tomorrow we are trailering it back to the owner's garage to pull the tank and work on the brakes and other items to get it back on the road.

The mechanic was impressed with the build and way it ran. He said that there was really nothing to worry about other than sorting out the gas tank issue and, of course, the brakes, fluids and tires.

I will post more pictures as work progresses. At least mechanically the motor is sound, so on with the show!

Dave

Love hearing this. Hopefully I will get to hear her sing soon. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) Thanks for keeping us all posted.

Pulled the gas tank and taking it to a specialist to boil out and coat the inside and paint the outside. No rust underneath tank.

Then it's on the changing all the fluids and get it on the road.

This is what happens when you have and make a ton of money, but don't have time to enjoy it. The PO probably paid a lot of money for this car, and rightfully so, and had no time to use or take care of it. Couple that with the fact it was the only one of his car collection that he had to leave outside for lack of space. I don't want to tell you what he had garaged - it would make you sick! At least we got to this one soon enough that, with a little TLC, will once again be worthy of the Porsche 914 heritage.

New tires purchased this week.

In need of the following items to proceed with resurrection for a 1974 914:

-Complete stock black interior including door panels.
-Windshield
-Rear Spoiler - The short one that bolts to the lid
-Stock seat belts with retractors.

Let me know what you got and how much. Maybe we can do the deal(s) at Hershey coming up on April 22nd.

Nope, it's different.

That one was made by one of the 914world members. he is in the vendors section if he still makes them. They are designed specifically for flared cars.

Gas tank stripped, boiled out and coated on the inside professionally. Outside painted and ready to install today. Cleaned out gas tank area. Moved fuel pump to allow room for spare tire.

Vent will be capped. No blower. There's no heat anyway because of the headers. Hey, there's plenty of ventilation with the top off!
