...a supplier for a new set of vacuum hoses for my 1973 1.7L. Was installing new plugs yesterday and found several of the original hoses had disintegrated into hard rubber slivers. I would really like to get replacements that are color correct red and gray, but no luck on 914rubber, Pelican, and Sierra Madre. Can y'all offer any other sources? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) ... & ready to go!

IIRC either their kit &/or Jeff Bowlsby has diagrams for what color goes where.

Try in the Tech Docs etc. subsections, or email to him to ask where it is.

And while you're in there redoing the vacuum hoses ....

Chris Foley at tangerine racing may also sell the hoses you need.
Please search regarding people's experience with AA prior to deciding if you would choose to try and do business with them.

I do not believe the correct colors are available anywhere any more. I have seen concours cars with the hoses painted with fabric dye...

I think George still has some, but you have to buy the whole kit.

IIRC I recall him bragging that he bought the last couple of full reels.
Keep in mind that although it's "new" I bet the hose is well over 20 years old.

I did see some 19mm hose from CFR and it was gray, not black.

Is there any reason that cloth wrapped vacuum lines are needed rather than thick walled replacement hose?

Not really, some just want it to look factory correct, also the braided hose doesn't need clamps because it is metric.
You can still get the black hose, just not the red and green.

You do want to be sure it's a hose type that can handle gas and oil fumes, etc. The cheap cloth hose from VW shops doesn't last more than a few years, it starts to crack at the cut ends. Even if they say it's German hose.

Just make sure you take the right type hose since some hoses that are not real vacuumhose can 'collapse' under big vacuum. Keep us updated if you find something that fits correctly and a picture how the new spaghetti looks :-)

Recently purchased a kit from AA I had been lead to believe were color correct. You guessed it, when the kit arrived, all hoses were black :^(

Mike, are your hoses sized to fit as a set, or sold as a coil in several diameters?
