The car was in the garage for the winter , one cold day I started it and put it outside for about a day .
Tried to start to put it back in, it starts and cuts off .Would not idle . I left it alone as it was cold .

I have it a try again yesterday as the weather was decent, same thing . I check for fuel , there is plenty . I think there is spark or it wouldn't start at all.

It's the 6 motor with Webber carbs .

Any ideas?

Thanks .

Hey Paul
Plugs are probably wet.
Remove, burn off residue with torch.
Install after cool.

Plugged pilot jets in the carbs. I run into this regularly with 11 motorcycles in the garage and modern gas and on my project 914 that has been mostly sitting the last couple of years..

Have you replaced the fuel filter? Any rust in the filter?

Try spraying starting fluid in carbs with . If it kicks over you have eliminated the ignition system and it must have something to do with the carbs.

I did some more digging , it looks like on the drivers's side carb only the barrel to the back of the car squirts , on the passenger front and back squirts but not the middle.

All idle jets are cleaned I pulled them out and insert a needle to clean them.

I removed the 15 mn bolts and noticed sludge under them.
I then decided to remove one carb. I took it apart , there is so much sludge under the floats and the little snorkel that squirts the gas is clogged. I will be cleaning them tomorrow and reinstall , then move on to the other side.

Today was a good day. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif)
I took apart both carbs, the passenger's side wasn't as bad. I disassembled and cleaned all parts. used small wire to clean all gas passages. There was a lot more under the floats; took me 2 Hours and 2 bottles of carb cleaner.

After putting them back together, if fires right up. I am on the road again.

I am guessing bad / sitting gas.

always big thanks to Rory for his guidance.
