Then this.

I couldn't resist seeing it in place. It will have to come out to adjust the spring pressure.

Pressure should be set to 525 PSi as per @Eric_Shea

Do you know how that gets done? I had a separate thread asking about this but no answers other than to send it to Eric. The factory manual has a procedure for setting it with the whole system hooked up, but requires two high pressure gauges. It would be cheaper to send it to Eric than to buy those.

I have no idea how the pressure is set and just sent mine in as a core.

Seeing as you now have a lot of time into yours, maybe you can ship it in and he can set it for you for less than the full cost of reman.

A quick deflection from the main event. Finally got around to installing this dudes with the fancy 914Rubber "vortex generators." The hardware that shipped with this were not self-tapping screws as I believe were original to screw into those plastic nubs. I think Porsche was being too cheap there anyway and suspect that is why so many cars are missing one or both deflectors. Instead, I drilled out the mounting nubs and inserted stainless steel cap screws with SS nylock nuts on the back side. I think this will work much better. If I were OCD... and luckily I am not (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) , I would cut off the nubs and plate these cap screws with black chromate to hide my fastener indiscretion.

The Bush is Back Baby!

Okay, now for the main event. Saturday I installed a new set of rubber bushings from 914Rubber in the front control arms. I like the look of clean control arms with just a little bushing showing.

Attached Image

Attached Image

You don't get any pics of the install. That job is a bitch and I was plenty busy trying not to screw it up. Thanks to @cuddy_k for his great video! I shared a couple tips I learned on his video thread.

I'll share one more tip here. Don't be an idiot like me and make sure to test install your torsion bar BEFORE tapping these end covers back in place.

Attached Image

I thought I had cleaned out the splines pretty well but NO. I wound up having to knock both end caps out, cleaning the splines with a dental pick and wire brush until the torsion rod could slide all the way through, then reinstalling and repainting the caps. It is surprising what a small amount of rust or debris will keep those rods from sliding in.

The control arms got new ball joints and the strut housings installed. This is all just finger tight so I can install the inserts later. I noticed that an oil stain formed on the floor anyplace I laid one of my original Boge inserts so I have a new set of Bilsteins on order and am waiting for them to arrive. The yellow tag has all the torque values for final install. This shot was taken just before I discovered I had switched the front and rear brake soft lines. If this one looks short, that's because it is.

Attached Image

And here's just a bunch of eye candy of where I am with the front suspension.

Sanitary! With all the parts going on the car you must be gaining a lot of extra room in the garage. When do we get to the part where you figure out how to get it off the rotisserie?

Yes, the pile of rusty shit stashed under the car and in the corners of the garage has gotten noticeably smaller. I even managed to empty out one of the storage bins on the shelves. The storage shed has cleared out nicely too (IMG:style_emoticons/default/clap56.gif)

And then that other thing... Yeah, I find myself staring at that rotisserie more and more and pondering the sheer terror of getting that car down. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

My lunch break task was putting my heater lever back together. I had the lever in the box schedule to go for chrome plating but got inspired by @mepstein and broke out the Mother's instead. It polished up nice so after replating the other parts, I put it together and installed it. I probably should have wiped the greasy finger prints off before photographing though.

It's the little things what makes me happy (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tooth.gif)

BTW, I didn't use the new knob that came with my 914Rubber kit because it looks too bright and looks like the cherry on a sundae. I decided to just polish up my original with Novus plastic polish. I've only polished it by hand at this point. It looks pretty good but should look perfect after I use a buffing wheel on it.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif) Ha! No, I'm going to go all Baja on its ass! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)

Our road isn't actually as bad as Marc lets on. To be fair, it was in the absolute worst condition I've ever seen it when he visited. It is a long story, but that was hopefully an anomaly although it needs some catch-up maintenance now. It does get dusty though. But as much as I used to love tearing down dirt roads in this car back in the day, there will probably be a lot less of that going forward.

That reminds me of a great story with this car. My wife and I were taking a paved, but very seldom traveled back road into work one morning with the top off. Came around a fast sweeper to find a frickin' longhorn running top speed in my lane straight at me, and a cowgirl on a horse trying to catch it. Four-wheel disc brakes brought our little pony to a whoa in nothing flat. Then it was up to the steer which was rapidly getting larger in the windshield. At this point, the cowgirl had pulled up on the reins and sitting their with eyes wide and mouth agape. Would the longhorn go over, or around? It veered at the last moment and I swear its right horn went right over Elizabeth's head. Both seats and a saddle got serious creases in them that day!

Yes! I love it! Having to plow twice a day to keep up. Driveway is getting kind of skinny because I'm running out of room to put the snow. The only down side is that I have a stack of five Fuchs buried under it that needs to be dug out before my car touches the ground - and that is on the north side of the house where it is drifted to over five feet deep. But really, how can anyone not love this stuff (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

A few shots of the current view.

Greenhouse eve is about 4ft above the ground.

The lump behind the Pathfinder is a pickup truck. The dog wants to know why we aren't skiing.

The eve is 9ft. high.

Awesome best friend... I had his look-a-like a few years back. Don't touch the skis unless you are actually going. You have a great piece of the universe there Brent. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) It's so beautiful here the river is gorged across the highway. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) this shit

Brent is right Kent. I had no trouble getting up his road in my Syncro Westy. Didn't even need the 4WD. Once you sync your speed to the top of the washboard ruts it's smooth as ice and the pot holes were big enough to be seen from a distance so they were easy to dodge.
