Can anyone point me to verified 914 engine number ranges? I have information on an available EC motor, but the number does not fall into the ranges I found, so I am wondering if it is instead a VW type IV motor. Sorry if this has been asked before, but I could not find anything in my search.

Based on this thread (http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=91988), there was an EC specifically for VWs, so I was not sure if this was a different motor or the same motor with a different layout (dipstick location, etc.). Also, I was not sure if it was frowned upon to reference other 914 forums, but I found a table that had engine numbers not going nearly as high as the motor in question. I can post a link if it is okay. |

There were 17,773 1.8L cars made, so the engine numbers should go at least that high, not accounting for any additional stock or factory replacements.

EC is a 914 engine,
Just like the type 1,2 and 3 engines, the type 4's are all the same engine just drilled different for what car it's going into. Many times you will find a type 4 914 engine swapped into a bus, a bus engine in a 914 or 411/412. There are other differences in heads, piston tops, valve sizes, etc. but for the 914 1.8 there's just a small bump in CR. |

Thank you both! The power plant is still TBD, but I hope to contribute to this forum in a few months with a build that is just getting underway.
