A deductable is usually stated on a insurance pollicy. You pay the first X amount of $$ of the damages done to something you own. You can get different amounts of deductable on a policy.

Who is asking you to pay the deductable?

yeah like when someone decided to bust out the window on my old eclipse, i had a $500 deductable, so anything over 500 they would cover but the first 500 is up to me, so i paid the 300 to have the window replaced. I called them and said i want my deductable to be 100-so theyll cover anything over 100- they said ok but now my prices went up a dollar a month or something. It's a way, supposedly, for insurance companies to keep your premiums down and also cuts down on the number of (smaller amount) claims they have to process.
