Sold, pending payment.

1973 PORSCHE 914
2.4 six conversion
Vehicle identification number
4732900158
This is an early VIN ’73 with no door beams.

Priced at 23K.

This car started life as a 1.7 liter base model and was modified by myself and the previous owner into a recreation of a 914-6 using a combination of original and aftermarket parts. Originally sold in California, the previous owner acquired the car in Colorado in 1995 and started the conversion in 1997. The car was off the road from 1997 until I completed the assembly in 2008. It has been driven about 9k miles since then. The car has a clean California title in my name.
Power comes from 2.4L six sourced from a 1973.5 911T with the Bosch K-Jetronic Continuous Injection System original to the engine. The engine serial number is 6133146.
The previous owner had any rust issues addressed which were limited to the battery tray and one jack tube support. Chassis reinforcements were installed, and the areas were treated with weld-through primer and then either tack or seam welded as necessary. The wheel wells were sprayed with paintable undercoating prior to being repainted in the original Saturn Yellow (L13M).

Overall this is a very solid drivable car that just needs some finishing work. It starts, drives and stops well and I’ve driven it 9k miles in its present condition. A lot of time and money went into this conversion and it’s a blast to drive. The only reason I’m selling it is due to lack of garage space.

I had my shop do a compression test recently to gauge the health of the engine. Numbers are:
1-130 2-130 3-135 4-140 5-140 6-140

About the car:
• New front and rear wheel bearings
• Aluminum 911 front cross member
• Replaced battery tray and right side jack hole
• 19 mm brake master cylinder
• Seats reupholstered
• Early 911 front suspension with vented rotors and 911 “M” calipers
• Rich Johnson (A914guy) parts
o front engine mount
o 914/6 accelerator linkage kit
o 914/6 style 90 degree oil cooler modification
o 914 chassis reinforcement kits
o preformed trailing arm reinforcement kits
o 914/6 engine sheet metal

• Original 914/6 oil tank - cleaned and painted
• Original 914/6 heat exchangers - JetHot coated
• Aluminum thresholds
• Engine was acquired in 2000 and had been rebuilt at some point prior to purchase. No documentation was provided.
• Rear 5 bolt conversion using drilled early 914 rear hubs and vented rotors with modified Ferrari 308 calipers to allow the use of the hand brake. Calipers were modified and rebuilt by PMB Performance (Eric Shea) This is the same caliper setup that was used on the factory 914/6 GTs.
• Stock thru the body sway bar
• Bilstein HD Shocks and adjustable rear spring perches from Elephant Racing
• Elephant racing trailing arm rubber bushing kit
• Rebuilt 901 transaxle by Brad Mayeur
• Factory 6x16 Porsche Fuchs
• New turn signal switch
• Collapsible spare
• Metal fuel lines in tunnel
• Tires with about 10k miles since new
• Triple gauge (fuel, oil pressure, oil temp) in place of stock fuel gauge. Pressure gauge needs sender installed on the engine to be functional.
• 914/6 hand throttle which aids in the cold start function of the early CIS injection
• Original charcoal carpets and black vinyl seat upholstery

Issues:
• The rear trunk lid is not original to the car, is a different color and doesn’t fit well, it leaks
• Fresh air/heater controls work but the sliders do not go fully to the left
• Sheetmetal in the rear trunk is bent to clear CIS components
• Driver side jack hole needs to be welded or replaced
• Drivers side rocker panel is damaged. A good replacement is included
• Paint issue on rear passenger side fender
• One fog light lens is cracked
• Cracks in the dash
• Horn does not work
• The turn signal switch only self-cancels in one direction

Parts included but not installed:
• Rear sway bar
• Rear trunk light
• Heat/defrost indicator light between the seats

For someone wanting to put a bigger six in a 914, this is a great platform to start with. The front engine mount and rear suspension chassis reinforcement are already done.

Wow. I had no idea there was another 1973 -6 conversion in the Santa Cruz Mountains. And with a 1973.5 911T CIS engine like mine.

Good luck with the sale.

And there's another conversion with a 73.5 T motor in Pleasanton.... although a 3.0 is on deck....

Congrats on the sale!
