Car is absolute perfection and gorgeous.
Original builder, as I recall, spent $65K. Should go for about $45K or so - and worth it ! |

The only thing that would make it better would be to remove the duck tail off the rear and paint it yellow. Then it would be perfect. Of course, that is what makes us all individuals. Personal preference.

The pictures don't even come close to doing the car justice. It's an incredible car. Interesting that it now lives in Newport Beach?? That's a fairly recent development.

A friend of mine who is Car Crazy called me last nigth asking if I had seen this acution. He relayed a story to me about the time that Ernie King had the car on Ebay. He almost had the car in a trade and $$$. It didn't work out. Know he is looking at it again. I hope that he gets it, I would love to see the car here in the PNW, and I would get to drive it.
This car is a better investment than a new Boxster. CCLINEBAYMYWAY |

Maybe a long-term investment car. My take is everyone who has owned it up to now has lost money on it. |

Exactly, Long term investment. I understand Ernie rebuilt the motor and components for the car a total of 4 times. With each rebuild costing @ $20k.
If todays buyer is able to purchaser the car at close to $35k they will definetly be purchasing on the down trend. CCLINWCC2006 |

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/agree.gif) You can't think you will buy a car like this to make money. I think if you wanted an "Ultimate" 914 though, this would be the ticket and money ahead. Making it a good investment for someone who planned on keeping the car. My thoughts as to why it has been through a couple of owners: You can have a $50k 914 and it's still a 914. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/sad.gif) Some people might go to a local Porsche Club event and see people driving around 993's for less money and think "What am I doing with a 30+ year old $35k beefed up VW?" Just my guess. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/confused24.gif) Almost anyone here on the club would marry this 914. But I don't think it has had a "true" 914 owner yet. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wink.gif) Otherwise, it would'nt be for sale. |

Who knows if this the reserve was really met. Zero feedback bidder who signed up yesterday. Call me skeptical but it looks like a shill padding the bidding. Why would anyone bid so high with several days of bidding left to go? This car was on ebay 4 or 5 times before and could never make the reserve. Why would anyone bid period? I mean if I wanted to buy this $35K 914, I'd contact the seller directly, have him take the car to the best shop in LA to check out the motor's health and then I'd make an offer that never saw ebay. This car is not an investment. It's way overbuilt for a 914 and it will always be a tough sell when you need to get out. At least you OR guys wouldn't be looking at an additional $3K bill just to register the car. Sometimes CA sucks! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) |
