To be concours correct regarding US headlights for my 74 restoration, what brand should I use from today's market availability?

Greg, I'd say Hella 1st, then Sylvania #2 (also found on USA bound 914s & usually what the dealers here sold for replacements).

You probably won't need to worry much on that even at Parade though, since they're considered wear items like tires, & most would likely have been replaced at least once by now.

PS - To be absolutely correct you'd be incandescent sealed beam, since US-DOT then still had the bugaboo about Halogen headlights, but many swapped out to H4s for better lighting. Today you can get the H4 non-sealed, sealed Halogen, or sealed replacement & upgraded high power brighter ones from Hella/Sylvania without being gigged anywhere but AACA/CCCA/etc. shows, & probably not even there!

Thank you for the feedback and link to the previous discussion. So, if you were to replace your stock GE headlights today, what would you replace them with?

I'm tempted to buy a few sets of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/171738572222?_trks...K%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
