Shaved doors, Shaved doors Options

I was wondering if anyone out there has shaved the doors handles on their 914? I am in the middle of redoing my 71. I am going with fender flares and think shaved doors would finish it off with a clean look.

Dumb question, how you open it? From underneath somewhere?

He has a remote control that pops the door open. He has a backup just in case he loses the remote or has a dead battery. That is actually the first question most people ask.

i had a truck w/ door poppers, made me nervous. I shaved the handles on my 69 firebird, i left the lock hole, and made the linkage control the handle linkage, which was all from an s10 truck and welded into the jamb. Turn the key and the door popped open.

I used to do van comversions and some of the custom ones I shaved the door handles. I used the door key lock as the handle just like you said. It was easy to do. Then I would weld in a valve spring into the door jamb to push the door open when I turned the key. It was a clean look on the vans. But that was back in the late 70's early 80's.

How about just shaving the handle and leaving the indent on the fender for a door pull?

Take a look at the new Cadillac sporty car, They left a space in the back so you can slide you hand in and pull the door open after it is unlocked.

**Door Opening System**
The doors are opened by touching a pad located in openings at the rearward edges of each door. Once the pad is pressed, the doors unlock and open if the transmitter is within a 3'radius. To operate the ignition the driver presses a button on the instrument panel. The same button is pressed to stop the engine. As a safety feature the engine will not start unless the transmitter is in the car and the brake pedal is depressed.

As well as eliminating the traditional problem of fumbling for keys, the Keyless Access system provides a high level of security. "It's hassle-free, simple and logical," said Leone. When leaving the car, the access system has a convenient auto-lock function.

Someone brought an XLR by work last year and we checked those features out. You don't really have a key, just a transmitter that you can keep in your pocket and, as you said, everything is activated by proximity. Pretty cool, not sure how to deal with it when it breaks.

Anybody see the videos of the BMW 7 series that the guy was having all the software problems with? The key on that car is this weird cartridge type thing; he'd stick it in to start the car and it would eject it back at him and wouldn't let him go anywhere!! My Saab has something like that. It's just a big-ole keey-looking thing that plugs into a hole, that you turn. You can stick your thumb in there and turn it...but it just barks at you.
