When we got our '73 the center seat cushion had an "underbite" at the front. I.e., it was about 1/2" too short. When I took it out the hinge was screwed to the top edge of the box as shown in the first photo. If it gets attached to the inside face as shown in the second photo then it fits correctly at the front. Is the second photo the right way to mount it? And the hinge just shows on top of the vinyl? I've done a fair amount of searching but never see a clear shot.

Mine is stuck in a box somewhere (I am replacing the floor pan), but last time I took it off I put it back wrong, If I remember correctly this is how it goes:
You had number 1 (underbite)
You are suggesting number 2
I think it should be number 3
