I have a pair of Honda Goldwing air boxes similar to those (if not identical). Same issue, I didn't want to lose my rain tray, so I didn't install them.

I understand that they are quite effective at reducing the carbs' induction noise from someone else who did install them.

Hey Mark i would like to know what you know

About this engine that these carb quietes came off of

Sir keiths 2.3

Just put it in the car and it totally transformed the 914 experience

Now when im driving i have the advantage in every situation

I really could care less about stupid rain trays

Would prefer peace and quiet
Mechanic who installed the engine said rain tray was in too perfect of condition to remove in his opinion

And this motor really can roar (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ar15.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif)

There was a thread about alternative air-filter options a few years ago, but I don't remember who started it. Some folks were experimenting with electronic countermeasures, and others were experimenting with physical countermeasures to reduce carburetor induction noise. IIRC, one of the posters had excellent results in reducing the noise quite a bit with the Goldwing air boxes, so I purchased two of them on ebay including the filter elements.

Since my car sits outside, I decided to keep the rain tray, and unfortunately, the air boxes are too tall and interfere with the rain tray (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

That's about the extent of my knowledge about them ...

Here's a quote below from an old thread: http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?sho...amp;hl=goldwing

Not the greatest recording...but I have actually measured using a decibel app on my phone. with the tops off cans I get 92db in the car. With the tops on i see 76db.

I'm currently fashoning a trimmed, shallower rain tray but not sure I'll use it. also tginking of making some sort o f clips where I can clip it on for car washing or rain...

Mark...et al: This TOTALLy changes the dual carb 914 driving experience. best mod i've done...

QUOTE(7TPorsh @ Apr 4 2016, 09:58 AM) *

But here's the kicker. I started the car and went for a drive and it sounds awesome. I would say a 70% noise reduction from the intakes; I can hear the header now.

Here's the comparison....same street....pardon the shift clunks....trying to hold the phone, steer, shift, gas......
