I apologize, for I'm sure this has been covered. I searched, and just couldn't find the answer

When I bought my 74 2.0 5 years ago, the seller said it had a 915. Now that I know that the 915 was not the factory tranny, I'd like to confirm that I indeed have a 915.

Are there outward characteristics? Is the shift pattern unique? My tranny has reverse at top left, and first at bottom left. 2 - 5 are in the H pattern.

Thanks

the 915 in my 911 has reverse to the far right and down. 1st is far left and up..2nd straight down...etc etc. Sounds like you have a 901.

Upgrading to a 915 in a 914 is like a $5K+ project. The ring and pinion needs to be flipped and then you need special linkage (Wevo kit, Vellios kit, or something home made). There's really no reason to put a 915 into a stock '74 2.0L. The gearing would be a bit too tall as well.

Thanks. I knew the shift pattern would tell the tale, just didn't know the details.

Yep it's a 901, with a first gear that is not very grindular at all.

I'm quite happy with the tranny, just wanted to know what I got.

Put a V8 in the car, and do lots of burnouts in first gear. If it breaks - it's a 901.
