the Insurance Co ( I have Collision Coverage) is going to Total my pristine Civic Hatch even though it's an easy fix! I'm going to fight to either Fix it or I buy it super cheap and I will make it a ChumpCar!

They aren't going to give me squat without a fight! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif)

But it leaves me looking a DD. I don't do Payments! I may have to sell one of my '73s to fund a car purchase.

I have my '73 2.0 Appearance Group car that is the most recent CotM

my other '73 is my Camaro Pro-Touring RestoMod that is not finished yet, but close (which means more $$)

My 2.0 is super sweet, but I can always build another (I've had over 30, so I'm not giving up on you guys! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/bootyshake.gif)

my Camaro would get my money back, but not much more now, but finished is a long term cool car that you could go anywhere with & not worry.

I've only owned 62 carrs so I should know the answer, but would like other opinions!

T.C.

TC, that looks drivable and since you hang out here, it can't be a pride thing... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

Seriously, do the drill, find comps that fit your argument. Refuse to settle. Dig in and make them wait!

The Ins Co is balking about letting me Buy it Back. The Magnaflow S/S Exhaust & Koni Sport Yellows are worth more than they offered me when they said it's totalled! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)

The problem is when you look for Civic Hatch, they are all Riced Out pieces of crap, which brings the Value way down!

Chumpcar will cost money and/or time, too. $5000 or more if you have someone else make the cage.

Get what you can from ins., fix it, drive it a couple more years, THEN make it a Chumpcar, or sell it to the ricer crowd.

One of the biggest factors in Insurance Company's decision to total a car is "Did the air bag deploy ? "The cost of new ones are exorbitant.

In Calif, if they do total it, you will have a title transferred to them and branded as "salvage" before they sell it back to you, thereby rendering the value to much less . . Plus. once you get a 'salvaged' car title, the car must undergo repairs and state re-certification that every component of the car meets state standards before it can be re-titled and re-registered.

Not far off from the Adjuster for PARTS - No Hood Needed, his came to $1200 in Parts & $1500 in Labor. They said the car is only worth $2800 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

No Airbag deployment! I will get the car back but it will be "Salvage". We don't have Inspections, I could drive it like it is if I wanted! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif)

I tell you what. I took a 2002 toyota Celica in trade on a motorcycle. Had it for like 10 days & hadn't been to the DMV to change the title. Lady rear ended me at a stop light. Had planned to give it to my son for a graduation present from HS. This was a week before graduation. Lady pushed me into the car in front of me. A toyota truck which I only hit his hitch so didn't do any damage but punch a hole in my front bumper & knock it loose on the sides. My rear end wasn't to bad either. No air bags deployed. Rear bumper would need replaced as would the rear hatch. I knew as soon as I saw it they would total it out. I was nice with State farm & said I don't need the rental at the moment. Knew the appraisal would be quick. Here is where I get screwed. After a week of it being at the shop. They do tell me they consider my car a total loss. Problem is the title is in someone else's name. They can't cut me a check until it is in my name. DMV says 3-6 weeks to get a title. I know this so ask are you giving me a rental while I wait? No your car is drivable so we can't do that. WHAT? You just told me it is a total loss. You expect me to drive it for up to six weeks? Not to mention my car is torn apart at the shop who did the appraisal so they could give an accurate estimate. No we can't approve it because your car is drivable. Although I will be getting $3700 for my car which is more than I have into it. It is still total bullshit. I check with the shop & my car isn't back together last week. State farm calls me today. 3 weeks after the accident during which time my car has been at the shop. I ask the lady on the phone. So I have been without my car for 3 weeks now. Can I get reimbursed for that time. She says no. I say none of this is my fault. I can understand a little the issue with the title. While none of this is my fault. I can live with that to a point. You telling me you won't reimburse me for the time I've been without my car is ridiculous. This was your customer's fault. She says let me check with someone. Puts me on hold. She comes back all nice. Sorry about all this. I got approval to reimburse you for a rental of $16 a day. For the time of the accident until we deemed it a total loss. Which was a week (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) . Wait I haven't had a car for 3 weeks. You called to tell me my car is ready to be picked up today. You know I didn't have a car available that whole 3 weeks. How do you figure you only owe me for a week? She says well do you want the week or not? Thats all I can do. I then ask are you recording this call? She says all calls are recorded. I ask what her name & position is. She tells me. I say I am recording this as well. I will be talking with my lawyer about this & sharing this with him. Does this sound even remotely fair to you? To which she wished me a good day & hung up (IMG:style_emoticons/default/WTF.gif)

The sad fact is most if not all large company's don't care about fair. They have lawyers who tell them what is legal and the sharp ones will tell them what is too much trouble or expensive for the other guy to fight even if what they did isn't legal. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) It's all about the money. I had a guy make a left turn from the right turn lane in front of me, they paid for the repairs to my car and for a rental but my lost wages for taking the car in were my tough luck. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) Now if I didn't care about right and wrong there are lawyers who specialize in collecting from insurance company's and have a list of doctors for you to see. Just make the best of it and do what is right, you will sleep better ; at least I do (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
