QUOTE(nditiz1 @ Jul 19 2017, 04:00 AM) *

So as some of you know I have been searching around Maryland for my first 914. 2 weeks ago on the 4th a seller named Jim in VA, 2 hours away, had a 72 with a transplanted 2.0 in it. He only had 2 pics and little to no info on it, but did have his phone number. I saw the ad 7 hours after it was posted to craigslist for $2500. I later received an email stating it was sold. 2 days ago this pops up on eBay

http://www.ebay.com/itm/172783341024?_trks...utorefresh=true

While the car does have issues, for $2500 Can it be all that bad? My rant is about the seller. I realize making money is nice and while everyone wants to make a quick buck it sucks to be on something I almost had. He now has it for sale at BIN $7800 or best offer. I offered him $3500 stating he would make a quick $1000. He declined. Sorry just wanted to get that off my chest.

You call that a rant?
Doesn't even qualify as a rant. Maybe a complaint, but certainly not a rant.

Some of us here are professional ranters!

Nditiz, don't make me start my own rant about your own, less than stellar, dealing with me for a local-to-me PPI. You said you'd get back to me and never did. Not a big deal to me until you start complaining about others. Just saying.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif)

Hmmm. Interesting.

You'll have to up your game. This is 2017, waiting to "scour the ads daily" will have you last every time. Sign up with the engines that search for you with immediate alerts etc...

QUOTE(nditiz1 @ Jul 19 2017, 08:10 AM) *

Also, I was in no way looking for a flipper. Yes I love finding a "deal". My budget is not $3500 either it is closer to 10k. The sting of this rant is because I usually scour the local ads daily if not every few hours and missed this only to have it pop up for more money and nothing done to it. While I may have dodged a bullet the feeling I have not being able to drive a, rusty not sorted, 914 still exists. I figured even if it did turn out to be a turd I'd still have value in the motor/trans, unless I'm wrong about the value of the 2.0.

I once drove an hour and a half each way to look at a supposedly undamaged 914-6. It turns out both half's were undamaged, it had been cut down the middle and two cars grafted together.

You don't win them all, and some you are glad you did not buy. If you look at some of the rust repair members have done, you can be very glad you did not buy it, unless you are a great welder.

Which search engines provide immediate alerts? The few that I have alerts from never seem to be "immediate" and sometimes I don't get the alerts at all.

I have been following your threads and with a $10K Budget, one of these may work well for you. You should consider widening the scope of your search. Happy hunting!

If the shoe were on the other foot, i.e. you bought a real bargain and flipped it for a nice profit, would you be ranting or bragging? Everybody wants capitalism and a free market as a seller but not as a buyer...

Anyway, for $2,500 you should expect a 914 with major issues such as the extensive rust. Agree with others, celebrate the fact the you didn't buy this car, especially for $3,500 rather than $2,500.

BTW, I found both of my 914s through Cars and Coffee, Katie's in Great Falls, VA actually. Both by word of mouth. If you don't already, attend such gatherings, get to know the regular attendees, be patient, and you might be surprised what good deals can come along from these contacts.
